Sustainable and Healthy Meals - Saves Time, Energy, and the Planet!

Hello and Greetings, Everyone!

Hope this post finds everyone well!

Last week, I gave myself a 7-Day Sustainable Dishes Challenge. Meals that takes less time, consumes very little cooking gas, inducing sustainable living in my food intake. It increases the duration for the gas refill and in the long run, is easy on our pockets and planet.

They are my small efforts towards the planet for a sustainable lifestyle. Let’s explore together : -

Day 1 Lunch : Seasonal Veg Salad Punch: I did not had lunch that day, which ideally includes Chappati (Breads) and Sabzi (Vegetable Curry), instead I made veg salad. Healthy and Light!

Day 2 Lunch : A Probiotic Meal - Curd and Leftover Rice (from previous day) with onions, green chilli. Food waste is not a good idea.

Day 3 Lunch : Seasonal Fruits Delight : I assembled all the fruits and enjoyed it with few drops of lemon and a little Chaat Masala (tangy Spice). Great for overall health and keeps the body hydrated and full of energy.

Day 4 Lunch : Khichdi or Hotchpotch - Lentils and Rice Porridge. A digestive healing dish that is easy for our stomachs and cooks in 2 cooker whistles. It consumes less cooking gas, time and efforts. Just few integrients. A soothing meal is ready. I ate it wirh curd and onions.

Day 5 Evening Veg Snack : Quick Bites : I cooked Vegetable Besan Chilla (Gram Flour Pancake) and I ate with mild roasted bread. In just 5 minutes, it gets cooked! Enjoy it with sauces of your choice.

Day 6 Dinner : Indian Cottage Cheese or Paneer Wrap : Wheat Flour Chappati or Roti or Bread and I stuffed it with home made cooked Paneer Burji or Scrambled Paneer. Light, healthy and easy to cook. Scrambled or Paneer Burji takes only 5 minutes of time and cooking gas. Healthy for lunch boxes and travel stories.

Day 7 : Evening Healthy Drink : Not a Meal but a healthy drink. A lemonade with few drops of Roohafza (a type of rose-flavored syrup). It is refreshing and light, espically for those hard summer days.

We can induce healthy and sustainable dishes in our daily routine. You will yourself see changes in health and cooking gas consumption. The sustainability can start from our kitchen as well.

Sustainable Kitchen Habits for Healthier Living:

  1. Avoid fried dishes and choose cooking methods that use less cooking gas.
  2. Prepare 2–3 simple vegetable curries each day to support healthy and mindful living.
  3. Less of restaurant visits and avoid ordering food to lower your environmental footprint.
  4. Try replacing some lunches or dinners with healthy, low-energy sustainable meals.
  5. More use a pressure cooker whenever possible to cut cooking time by 30–70% and saves cooking gas.
  6. Cook with a lid on to retain heat and reduce fuel consumption.
  7. Reheat and enjoy leftovers instead of throwing them away to minimize food waste.
  8. Cut vegetables into uniform pieces so they cook evenly and more quickly.
  9. Keep gas burners clean to ensure efficient combustion and lower gas usage.
  10. Turn off the flame a little early and let residual heat finish cooking the dish.

The sustainable journey continues…

I would love to know what you all think! Which one is your favorite home made sustainable dish? Everyone’s views would surely motivate me!

Wonderful Idea @AnubhaBangia .

I am really happy to see your sustainable efforts in daily life inclusion.

Here I would humbly suggest that instead of ruh afza if possible add

Buttermilk or CHACH if possible that will reduce your calorie in take

Chills with Butter milk is good combination add some black salt and chat masala for taste and plaltablity enhancement.

However the reachest source of protein without flame i included in my breakfast is sprouts add it.

Instead of white bread just use brown :brown_circle: bread that’s good for health.

Sprouts with some fresh fruit any one of your choice is good breakfast is really good option without flame :fire: i found it even sometimes in take away when I am in hurry to catch train and bus for frequent travelling due to my job.

Khichdi oh yummy :face_savoring_food: i love that I preferred every Saturday even at my house with green DHANIA CHATNI.

DO YOU KNOW.

KHUDI KE CHAR YAAR.

CHOKHA PAPAD DAHI ACHAAR(PICKLE)?

now translate for other LG as I am travelling even now.

Keep inspiring

Regards
