SUSHI PHILOSOPHY in American style: lack of taste or global cheating?!

Dear readers!

Frankly and sharp presentation of the material is now a commercial trend. I decided to try myself in this line

I am writing this review with the aim of calling you to discuss an interesting topic: sushi-fake in the USA and indifference of visitors - this is a manifestation of complete indifference in food or lack of taste?!!

What is sushi and sashimi? This is fresh fish or seafood and rice. Basically, THAT’S ALL. All another’s (nori, various sauces and decoration options) are additional options that DO NOT affect the taste of sushi.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the staff clowns restaurants - employees who must pretend to be like “Japanese” in every respectful sushi restaurant. In my opinion, it would be much more successful if they made themselves harakiri before closing the restaurant. Visitors flocked to look at it.

(I very really respect Japanese culture and traditions, but I don’t accept it when they try to make a circus out of it)

Before I moved to Omaha, USA, I lived in Moscow (one of the largest cities in the world, larger in size and population than New York). In addition, I have repeatedly been to Hong Kong, China and other places in Asia, Europe and other country, in order to have a complete picture of a particular Japanese cuisine.

But when I got to the USA, I was shocked at the beginning by the fact that even in expensive restaurants here, instead of REAL sushi, you can cook a “fake” from imitation crab and imitation of fish.

And it seems that most Americans consider it NORMAL. And willing to pay for this fake expensive.

Therefore, if I see that sushi is made from imitation crab in a restaurant, it means automatically - 1 star in the review. I make exceptions for buffets «all-you eat».

But they position themselves as a cheap democratic place for everybody.

For the next stage of degradation and profanation of visitors is to start making sushi and rolls of canned fish and demand at least $ 10 per serving of this “raw material”

No matter where you eat: in an expensive restaurant or in a cheap buffet. Sushi in its philosophy should be the same: rice and fish.

The only difference is the abundance of choices of this fish, the size of portions and prices. But we have a paradox in USA: in expensive and prestigious sushi restaurants, the serving size is much less than in a cheap buffet, the price prohibitively expensive and … sushi from imitation of crab and fish.

I think that many US residents who read this text, approximately remember the menu of their favorite non expensive sushi-bar in their city.

Here is information for you to think about (to compare the situation). Similar cheap sushi bars in Moscow (in a city located far from the ocean with very expensive prices for fish and seafood).

You will not find sushi rolls made of imitation crab or fish in any menu of these restaurants !!!

Short list non expensive networks restaurant in Moscow

In the previous version of this article I wrote for the convenience of readers a direct URL on their menu

(so that you could see the range, prices and quality),

however, local moderators removed my article because of contains these URL.

so you can search these restaurants in google only by restaurant name.

  1. TANUKI (Moscow, network)

For as soon as this imitation appears in the menu, it will mean that half of the visitors will no longer go to them, as this suggests that the place has slipped to the bottom and the institution does not have enough money to buy normal products

  1. Planet Sushi (Moscow, network)

And here you will not find any imitation

  1. Yakitoriya (Moscow, network)

And here you will not find any imitation too

When people ask me about my favorite places in the US where you can eat cheap sushi and fish cuisine, I can recommend the following places:

  1. IchiUmi (New York)

6 E 32nd St, New York, NY 10016

(212) 725-1333

  1. Fushimi (Milwaukee)

  1. Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet (Des Moines)

1801 22nd St, West Des Moines, IA 50266

(515) 267-838

this is my personal top list.

in fact, quite good places that I would recommend would be more than 10, but after the 5th place they are all the same in level (there is no menu originality)

That’s why when people ask me what is my favorite sushi restaurant in Omaha, I say NO.

If I want to eat sushi, I either cook them myself at home, or go to Kansas City, Denver, Des Moines or … I look forward to working in New York to visit one of my favorite places.
