I think the most interesting thing do as a local guide is to discover new places. One of my favourites was Survana Kerala Cuisine.
Survana Kerala Cuisine: After a long day on a summer trip with the university, my group got tired and hungry. Miss Kim, our supervisor from the Uni, wanted some Indian food. We were not close to any restaurant, so I searched in Google Maps and found a little street that had 3 or so smalls restaurant, so we went to the street to check the restaurants out. None of the three were appealing to the group. However, there was a green Indian restaurant that was not on Google Maps. I like to see reviews and food pictures before going into any restaurant to make sure it’s good. Nevertheless, we went ahead and took the risk and went inside the restaurant. It was well absolutely worth it. Food was very good at Survana. We tried new dishes that we hadn’t as a group. Miss Kim, who is an Indian Food enthusiast, gave good appraisals about the food and about the good time we had. Later, the owners and her husband came to say thanks personally. The husband spoke since the cook (his wife) didn’t know English. However, her face reflected how happy and grateful she was that such a large group of foreigners wanted to eat at her restaurant. After that, I stood up, wandered around, took pictures and uploaded the place in Google Maps. At some point, while taking pictures, I felt sorry. After all, I had forgotten to take pictures of the food because I was so much into its deliciousness that I got distracted, and with reason. However, it felt great that I could share a place with the entire world that was kind to me and that I could help contribute to a small new business in the locality.
