Quick tip for anyone visiting Oahu to try and save some $$$, you can save a bunch of money on lessons if you avoid the Ala Moana & Waikiki Blvd areas. These are where all the resorts send people as they have deals with the instructors so you’re paying more for what you’re getting and spending time not trying to hit someone in the water as there are people everywhere.
Stick to off the beat locations like Nimitz beach for example where there are a couple of companies that do private lessons for very low prices. Less corporate vibe with nobody else in the water and good sized beginner-intermediate level waves. Check Groupon as these companies are 2-3x more expensive on their own websites. I recommend Kalani surf school hawai’i, the couple are both highly trained and amazing instructors. It’s great to support local!
