Temple of Songara Princes and the Tree, Foot Road, Jalore Fort, Jalore, Rajasthan. India.
Suraj Pol, Jalore fort, Jalore, Rajasthan, India.
The Jalore Fort was founded by the Paramara kings on this inaccessible hill of Jalore in the tenth century. I do not know if I am courageous or not, but I get great pleasure from extraordinary trips. The purpose of the Jalore Rajasthan visit was to visit this fort which was also important for the Sultans of Delhi and Alauddin Khilji conquered it during the reign of Kanhadadev Songara a branch of Chauhan Rajput in 1311 AD.
This fort is situated on a high mountain known as Golden Mount, to climb up only difficult steps from the north direction and climbing up is always challenging. This hill is surrounded by cliffs.
I started climbing slowly, and I took drinking water with me because it’s quite tough, after quarter way there was a temple and a tree which was tied up with colorful dresses by the female devotees. From my unusual visits, I get to know interesting customs and traditions, further I came to know that this temple is dedicated to the Sonagara princesses and that’s why it’s a spiritual centre for the Hindu women as they worship so their wishes get fulfilled. Almost whole Jalore was visible from this point and there was no end of the climbing.
Well I started leisurely and after about half an hour of climbing, my excitement increased seeing a magnificent entrance gate, it was my second halt at Suraj Pol.
It is the first gateway which is a magnificent specimen of Maru Gurjar style architecture.
The Suraj Pol has been constructed by giving a special bend between the tall and flat walls made of stone masonry, a two-storied doorway based on the huge three arches, which open in the east-west directions and illuminated with the rays of the rising sun. It’s having very strong thick wooden panels fixed in the stone hinges at the top and bottom. Gate is decorated with flowers and first floor is having arched windows were used as watch tower. Ceiling is arched and roof is flat. It’s a quite strong entrance gate.
This is the first tourists attraction and special for offbeat travelers. It’s also a major attraction among the history buffs and adventure junkies.
