SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES

Background music track :arrow_right: HERE

Unfortunately, in recent months, we are experiencing all the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic which has changed dramatically our lives.

Many people have been forced to work from home, others are working less and others have lost their jobs.
The entire world economy has suffered the damage caused by Coronavirus, especially small local companies and recently opened businesses.
Our beloved Google obviously intervened immediately to show his support for these companies and to offer profits advice to everyone, explaining how to support our beloved local activities that are the basis of our economy!
Obviously, who better than us Local Guides and our community can help with this support activity?

Examples of some posts for the support of local activities, published on social networks!

- Local Guides IG post

- Maps IG post

- Google IG post

I particularly liked @mchomsky and @KatieMcBroom posts here on Connect!
If you’ve lost it or haven’t read it yet, you can find it here and here !

Seeing all these beautiful posts, I too was motivated to make my contribution and to present this post that I hope can also motivate you, who are currently reading, to make a contribution to support the activities!
But, you may be wondering: "How can I make my contribution to the cause?"

In my country, as soon as it was possible to leave the house, after the lockdown, many activities also reopened, and I decided to select some small businesses that needed local guide support.
These small businesses in my area stood out among others for the excellent services and products offered.
They proved their worth even in such a difficult period for them and I decided to show you some of them here!
Even a simple review or some new photos were immediately appreciated by the kind owners of these local businesses.

-BARBER CORNER

This is one of my favorite barber shops in the city, with a vintage look, high level products and a modern soul given by the young man owner Filippo, who decided to open this small business only a few years ago with courage and passion.

-CAFFE’ MISTRAL

It might seem like a simple bar like many others in the city but it is certainly one of the family activities most appreciated by me and others customers who are “pampered” daily by the kindness and professionalism of the people who work here.
“The substance before appearance” is the motto of this small local business!

-SU REU HANDMADE PRODUCTS

This is the typical unexpected family activity, which every tourist who visits Sardinia should test! It produces many delicious Sardinian typical products such as bread, cakes and fresh pasta, trying to combine traditional recipes with a modern look.

Supporting these small local businesses is crucial to contributing to their rebirth after such an economically difficult period.
We Local Guides can be one of the trump cards for the economic regrowth of all the companies put in crisis by this terrible and unexpected pandemic.

It could also be an opportunity to explore new places, meet new people and of course earn points for contributions posted on Maps!

So what are you waiting for? Earn points by helping people!

But remember: respect the laws that your government has decreed due to the pandemic from COVID-19 and if your country is still under lockdown stay
at home and go out only if strictly necessary. When you leave home, remember to always wear a mask, gloves and to respect the safety distance from other people. Always carry a bottle of sanitizer with you and wash your hands often.

Here in Sardinia the summer has started for a while and we are trying to enjoy it, safely, and of course to contribute to the economic recovery
of the premises in crisis, even with a simple review.
I wish you a beautiful summer (or any other season in your country now),stay safe and support local businesses! :+1:

Thank you @Matt95Bassett for this amazing post! :muscle:t2:

I totally agree with you, supporting our local business is not only good for them, but also (and let me say in particulate) for the sake of the whole country!

I love by the way your chart! Super intuitive and brilliant!

Are there many local businesses still closed in Sardina right now?

Thanks mate @nicspelgatti for your kind words! :+1: The majority of the activities here in Sardinia are now open but with many problems caused from the absence of tourists unfortunately… I think we will can see the real damage of the Italian economy in September/October… I think who many activities will close in that period for the debits

So true @Matt95Bassett and in the sametime so sad! :pensive:

But is it true that Cagliari is more affected from the this downtrend compared to Costa Smeralda (or the luxury vacation destination)?

What’s your opinion about it?

@nicspelgatti well I was referring in general but your question is rather interesting … let’s say that the comparison is a bit “unlikely” because we are comparing the main city of the island with a purely tourist area (but only in summer). The city always remains “alive” all year round unlike these sea areas such as the Costa Smeralda. But if we only talk about tourist areas such as beaches, I don’t think that being a “luxury” and therefore more expensive area, attracts more people than an area where everyone has the opportunity to stay. So in terms of downtrend the situation should be balance. Also in the area of Cagliari there are some “luxury” destinations. But if you want my opinion I think there are many better places in Sardinia to spend the holidays, compared to the Costa Smeralda and other luxury places

Hey @Matt95Bassett,

very nice and informative post, thank you for that.

It is very important supporting local businesses and I fully agree with you, we also try to do the same here with shops they did re-open with already many difficulties. Guess the first one for me which one was? This is an easy answer, pizza! As soon as they text me (I think they text everyone to try to get attention) I was already there that evening ?.

Next one indeed the barber shop like you, same story … directly there supporting him.

The fact is that I could notice that the first weeks they were mostly empty when they used to be always full, so difficult start indeed maybe because of fear to go out, fear to enter businesses again and that’s why this is so important.

Thanks again for your post … and don’t take too much sun! ? :sunglasses:

Great @LuigiZ I knew you would have bet on pizza and supported local activities too! :pizza: :it:
I must say that here in Sardinia the barbers and beauticians when they reopened were immediately full the first weeks, instead the other activities were filled with customers more slowly … But now we can say that we have returned to a normal life rhythm . Thanks for appreciating the post! :muscle:

How true is that @Matt95Bassett , also here we had the same trend. I think after such long time locked at home everyone needed to take some beauty again :joy: .

Anyway glad to see again some kind of normality, enjoy and have a wonderful evening :cocktail: .
