Supermarkets - vegetables

I love visiting supermarkets when travelling abroad. It shows you the real life of the locals.

The vegetables and fruits in supermarkets in different countries are, from my point of view, pretty similar. I guess the difference is how the are cooked.

I always wonder how it would taste if I cook some food which I never have never seen before, in Hong Kong style.

The photos below are from Hong Kong, Argentina and Andorra. The size of the supermarkets are different so it’s hard to compare. I hope it gives you an idea about what vegetable people consume in different countries.

P.S. I attempted in vain to add “supermarkets” and “vegetables” to the tag of this post. I don’t know why but I believe I’m not alone.

That’s an interesting love you have @amiroot . I would have thought that would be a very difficult comparison to make. Do you specifically note each item on the shelf and then do a detailed 1 for 1 comparison or do you just do it visually like this with photos?

You are correct. It’s indeed very difficult to have an item to item comparison. Usually, it’s just a visual comparison in a large photo like what I posted. And my attention usually goes to the food which similar to what I ate in Hong Kong.

Here is an example. The photo below is a zucchini from my kitchen. It’s pretty common in Hong Kong and the southern part of China. It looks and tastes very different from those in Europe, which is darker and tastes stronger (compare to those I taste in restaurant).

When I was in a foreign supermarket, I always imagine how these vegetables/meat tastes if they are cooked in Hong Kong style. It should be a very interesting experience if I have a chance to live abroad for a period of time to try it myself.
