Sunset hour

Sunset hour is the most soothing hour of the day. After a day at work, I look forward to winding down as the sun travels south and the birds fly home to their nests. In Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh there are many places to enjoy the sunset but my favourite place is the Mermaid Beach Resort along Marine Drive because it’s a so peaceful. Located along the beach, far away from the busy main road, I can hear my thoughts here!

Another vantage point for observing the sunset is the Sayeman’s Sunset Terrace that offers a spectacular view of the sunset dance. The only downside is the noise of vehicular traffic along the road just in front of the hotel. Divine Eco Resort is another great place to enjoy the sunset hour. It’s located on a quiet stretch of the beach with bamboo huts facing the sea. You can relax in a hut or have a meal at the restaurant with a scenic sea view when the sun sets.

Since the best things in life are free, you can also take a stroll along the Cox’s Bazar beach and enjoy the sun as it slips behind the horizon. This is a popular pastime for Bangladeshis who make this a family ritual that’s fun-filled and free-of-charge!

Others prefer to relax on the lounge chairs that you can rent for 30 Bangladeshi takas per hour (roughly US$0.50 cents). Just look out for the guys who monitor the ‘Berger’ umbrellas along the beach… they can hook you up with a cushioned chair. While lounging away chai vendors will surely come up to you to sell coffee or tea. You can also buy fresh green coconuts from vendors along the beach.

With 120 kilometres of uninterrupted shoreline to choose from, the sunset view along Cox’s Bazar beach is simply idyllic. Whether you choose to check into a resort or stroll along the beach, the sun sets with the same splendour every evening! ENJOY!
