I love live music concerts or as we call them in Jamaica ‘stageshows’. The biggest one for the year however is Reggae Sumfest.
Every third week of July, Montego Bay comes alive with excitement as tourists, artistes, music lovers and international media head to Catherine Hall for the mega stage show. Over the years, Sumfest has emerged from a small concert showcasing Reggae’s elite into a multi-genre mega-event drumming up international interest and diverse crowds. I wait with baited breath every April to hear the headliners!
If you are an avid fan of Jamaican music including Reggae and Dancehall, this is definitely something you should add to the bucket list. I think it’s probably the biggest festival of its kind in the Caribbean. There is a whole week of activities including street parties, sound system clashes (an epic and authentic element of Jamaican clash/dubplate culture) and after parties galore.
The show headliners are the peak of local and international music and have included: #BeenieMan, #BountyKiller, #SeanPaul, #DamianMarley , #StephenMarley , #TarrusRiley;, #VybzKartel; #KanyeWest, #DestinysChild, #BeresHammond, #BujuBanton, #ChrisBrown, #NickiMinaj, #LilWayne #Miguel #Usher, #FloRida #Common to name a few.
I’ve been going for about 8 years and can hardly contain my excitement for the 2019 staging as it marks the return of beloved reggae star Buju Banton.
