Hi all!
I want to share that the past March 30th we held a meet-up in Mexico City, called “Forgotten places”. The aim of this meet-up was to explore some abandoned movie theaters and Chinese coffees. In a different post I’ll explain a little history about movie theaters in Mexico City, now I’ll constrain to the meet-up.
The meeting point was an old movie theater named “Opera” at 11 o’clock, when I arrived, brenda_MEXICO,
YukitoK and Sergio were already at the meeting place, while Deyad sent me a message saying she was ten minutes late. So I start talking about the story of the place and the LG start taking photos, I was so glad to share the beauty of that building and making others appreciate it.
Then we continue our way long through Tacuba avenue, one of the oldest in the country, during the way we were talking about the Chinese migration to Mexico during the late XIX century, then we arrive to San Fernando cemetery which for our bad luck was closed that day! Hahaha but that didn’t get us down so we observe it from outside, as well as the parish church beside which resulted damaged on the last earthquake.
Then we get into an old Chinese coffee “La Nacional” to have a “lechero” and fresh bread, in this place we have the opportunity to refresh ourselves and relax. After that we went to another abandoned movie theater “Palacio Chino”, which unfortunately is in awful conditions.
Afterwards, we walk to the end of the meet-up and sadly Brenda leaves us and we finished the meeting in a “Pulqueria” which is a place that sells “pulque” an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented sap of the agave plant.
We have a great time and we planned to organize more meet-ups in Mexico City to improve our experiences and contributions as Local Guides.
