Streets of Pune to Delhi, Surya Namaskar Benefits Everyone

Last month I relocated from Delhi to Pune after 6 long years and indulged in my favorite activity - walking on the sidewalks. Many new fascinating surprises were in store for me.

Some like the Surya Namaskar Sun Salutation statues were added as recently as 21-June-2021, International day of Yoga.

These are the statues in shining brown color that depict the various poses of Surya Namaskar Sun Salutation that form an integral part of Yoga exercises.

I added them immediately to Google Maps.

Surya Namaskar Sun Salutation is a sequence of 12 yoga poses. These are a great cardiovascular workout and are known to have an immensely positive impact on the body and mind.

I recollect the entrance lobby at Delhi Airport Terminal 3 where the Surya Namaskar poses were nicely positioned on a spiral ramp.

Elsewhere in the Dhayari area of Pune where I visited for an accessibility check of a shopping mall and the accessibility check for Ganesh Temple, there is also a nice Surya Namaskar panel installed over the side-railings of a bridge.

Such panels on the sidewalks and at the airport provide inspiration to common people to take or continue practicing Surya Namaskar. The Surya Namaskar sequence involves transitioning from a standing position to a downward pose and then back to the standing position.

This set of 12 Asan positions of Yoga is dedicated to the Sun god Surya. This is not simply a matter of body postures but each position also involves controlled breathing with specific timing and duration for inhale and exhale to get the maximum benefit. All the while, the person is expected to remember and praise the Surya the Sun God for a spiritual connection.

The street that the Surya Namaskar posture statues are located are accessible as well. The sidewalk is neatly leveled with the main ITI road in Aundh where the statures are located and also seen in the photo above there is also a tactile path for the visually impaired.

Indeed @karinchavoll the Surya Namaskar and Yoga are great ways to rejuvenate the body and the mind.

Are the Sun Salutations of the Mayans and Incas in Mexico similar in nature and benefits?

Hi @TusharSuradkar

It is always great to see statues placed for different causes, are they going to be there for a long time?

In the most famoust avenue of Mexico City it is common to see different statues depending on the season of the year or events that take place in the city, last year a lot of skulls were added because of Day of the Dead, authorities had to remove them because people were gathering to take photos of them and well, the pandemic is not over.

It was funny to see photos while realizing I was sitting in a really bad position  , it is solved now hahaha

Haha… same here @LaloPadilla

Little do we realize that there is never the best time to be in the right posture.

In fact, it should be a continuous practice.

Also, the variations in the statues as per the season is a very thought-provoking idea :+1:

@TusharSuradkar ,

Certainly it is need of the time and awareness on such scale is important. I still remember in my school, one of rhe PT class was dedicated for Surya Namaskar and it definitely helped me a long way. We used to have competition at our school functions.

Nice post and photos.

Cheers!

Nice post @TusharSuradkar . You have posted a nice link between Pune and Delhi regarding yoga poses.

I remember I had saw Yoga poses at T3, New Delhi. But even while living in Pune, I did not see the yoga poses of Aundh and Dhayari. Thank you for sharing.

Agree @abhishekpatk

I think that is because we walk in T3 but zoom past the monuments in or on our vehicles in Pune

Joking… Please don’t mind.

I too ride right in front of these in Aundh normally but discovered only when I had to walk past the statues last week.
