Street View Video Mode

Hello all,

I want to use the new Street View Video mode, but my 2 current 360 cameras, the Ricoh Theta S and the LG 360 CAM, are not supported. The Ricoh Theta V is a little too expensive for my liking, the 360fly 4K is too low quality for me to want to use(based on sample videos I saw), and the Insta360 ONE seems to be for IOS only. This leaves me with the Yi Vr 360 Camera: Android support, fully spherical 4k video, and about $250 on a good deal. Has anybody used the Yi Vr 360 Camera with the new Video mode for Street View? If so, can you give me a link to the Street View?
Thank you!

P.S. Here’s a helpful link for supposedly(but never directly said) Video Mode compatible 360 cameras:

https://www.google.com/streetview/publish/

Gonna try to get @Yohanad 's attention again, I’ve already tagged her in several other places but she hasn’t responded yet.

By the way: The Theta V is not the only camera compatible with Video Mode:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NDa1rd5haU

This video (by Google) shows a guy using the 360fly 4K with the Video Mode at 0:08, along with the Ricoh Theta V at 0:13/0:14, I have also heard from someone else that the Insta360 PRO works with the Video Mode, but it costs way too much. Based on that evidence I was hoping that all the cameras listed here (besides the Ricoh Theta S/SC which it specifically says is not compatible with the Video Mode) would be Video Mode compatible. For the Yi VR 360 Camera is says “Street View app integration”(whatever that means), so I’m really hoping it works, because the price is better than the Theta V.

Hi @eznoahn I’ve posted a link to this on the closed Street View forum, perhaps someone there will take the time to pop over and answer your question.

As far as I know only Ricoh Theta V is compatible with STREET VIEW VIDEO MODE.

The listed cameras are generically compatible with SV App, that means that you can control shooting from within the app; but this doesn’t mean that are Video Mode enabled.

@eznoahn this is a fairly long discussion on video mode for SV not too long ago.

Unless some new update was given, I believe only the Theta V provides this feature as shared by Lucio. Do go through the link above.

Just tagging @Yohanad if there is updated support for the other cameras for video mode.

Hello @eznoahn !

Thank you so much for sharing your interest in using Video Mode!

Just to confirm, @LucioV 's answer is correct; the only camera officially compatible with the Video Mode in the SV App at the moment is Ricoh Theta V.

However, there are other options of 360 cameras, as you have seen in our website. Some of them will have their own software that will allow you to publish video into 360 photos on Maps. We will be updating that list as new cameras are added.

Is Google lying?

Hi @eznoahn !

The cameras featured in the video are part of Street View Ready, but some of them will use their own software to publish Street View.

Here you can learn more about each camera, including the 360 Fly, and how you can use them to publish your images in Street View.

Is Google currently working on integrating more cameras into the Video Mode? Because I can clearly see the guy using the Video Mode for that 360fly…

Currently for collecting Street View images I am using the LG 360 CAM(which is less than satisfactory-- but it can take an image every 5 seconds) and doing virtual tours with the Ricoh Theta S.

Hello @eznoahn !

I see your point, the Video Mode or a Street View Ready camera would be better options for this type of collect.

We test new cameras and update the list constantly and will definitely keep the community updated whenever new compatible cameras are launched.

Nayara

Thank you! Google has been incompetent with updating information and notifying contributors, so it’s nice to see that at least someone cares!

Thank you for your feedback, @eznoahn

The process to incorporate new cameras can be a bit long.

Please stay tuned here on the board for news.
