Street view moves in wrong direction when clicking on Chrome

In many places, street view is moving in the wrong direction when clicking on the map (using Chrome at least). E.g. go to https://www.google.com/maps/@-37.3219236,-59.1366539,3a,75y,239.66h,66.36t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1su5dsDgEPxos4379ffR816g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 (and notice the weird location of the icons), then click on the street to go forward… Street view moves backwards.

Also when looking at the “little man” icon on the map (lower left of the screen), it is pointing in the opposite direction.

This makes impossible to “walk” using street view…

How can I fix this, or report this to Google?

Hi @brindis

I opened your link using my Android phone and the latest Google Maps app. Here the movements forwards works exactly as expected. I see the split screen.

Did you try this?

If you are using a browser please, try Clear cache & cookies, if you have not already done so. The link has step-by-step instructions for Android, IOS, and Desktop. Just select the relevant tab at the top.

From November 20, 2020, the support for the Street View Trusted Photographers is no longer active in Local Guides Connect.

Best of luck
Morten

UPDATE: I now tested on my desktop. And I can confirm that forward is taking us backward. And retesting on my phone makes me realized that in fact, it is also moving backward. I got tricked by the transitions when I checked earlier. I hope this will be fixed soon.

Hi @brindis

EDIT:

My answer here below do not fix the issue.

Please check the indication given here below on the next reply by @L-C to report the issue

Looks like you need to calibrate the compass.

Please try the following steps:

  • Open your Google Maps App
  • Tap on the blue point (your position). A blue screen will open
  • On the bottom left corner tap on “Calibrate compass”

  • Follow the steps indicated in the screen

Then, try Street View again

If it doesn’t work, repeat the operation and tap in “report a problem”

Please let us know if the issue has been fixed

Hello,

This is actually a problem from Street View panoramas being inverted. I experienced similar problems in other parts of Argentina (like in the city of Cordoba).

Best you can do is to report the problem using the built-in tool in Street View.

Then select “Misplaced image or misaligned navigation arrows” in the reason and write in the box that panoramas are inverted and moving forwards actually moves backwards. Google needs to rotate the panoramas 180° to fix the issue.

Thank you! I think that the wrong placed icons may be due to the same cause.

Indeed. the icons are placed according to the POI coordinates, they are actually correct in this street but the Street View pictures are not. If Google rotates the panoramas the icons will show the correct buildings.
