Street View Assistance Please - Photosphere locations change when they are tagged with a business

Hi All

I have been uploading 360 photo spheres with the Android app. They appear in the correct location on the map, that is until I tag them with the place / business name.

Whilst Google’s “pin” for the business is in the correct location, the blue circle that shows the photo sphere location is being relocated to appear above a house roof 360 metres away to the west.

The iOS map shows the same movement, but with red dots, and I’ve used a screen shot from an iPhone to show the problem. The red dot on the right are photo spheres that have not been tagged with the business name. They are in the correct place. The red dot on the left show where the photo sphere are move to when they are tagged with the business location.

The business owner has no connection with the address that the blue / red dots are moved to.

I’ve been told this is a known bug, but has anyone found a work around?

Best wishes

Derek

Hi All

I’ve been using StreetViews on an Android Tablet. I’ve uploaded 71 photospheres one by one, and connected them half a dozen at a time.

After uploading around 46 of the photos selecting all photospheres became less and less reliable. Most of the time I can only select 25 photospheres, if I’m lucky 50 photospheres, but it seems to be random, regardless of how far I have zoomed out. Any reason why?

This may or may not be related, but whist I have connected all the photospheres, when I try to view a walk through, both in the app, and using Google Maps on a PC, some of the connections do not exist.

All help welcome.

Thanks

Derek

Hi @DerekSt

The connections in Google Maps need a few days to appear, and it seems you uploaded your latest photo on the last two days, so please wait a few more days. Also, the photo appear not to be added to a map listing.

Please read Publish and connect 360 photos with the Street View app for more details about connecting photos and adding them on to a Map listing

Hi @DerekSt

The photos are positioned on Maps according to the GPS position taken by your phone/device, so a small difference with the real position is always possible.

You can adjust the position by yourself (it is not a bug) dragging the photo on the right position: Please read Publish and connect 360 photos with the Street View app for more details about moving the photos

Thank you for the quick response @ErmesT

Are there any other considerations that should be taken into account for why some connections appear and other do not?

Reason for asking is that I have two other collections of outside photospheres I published in March / April and not all the connections have taken yet.

Reference the “added to a map listing”, you have subsequently seen my second post of the day in which I describe the problem of the location of the photospheres moving 360 metres to the west when I add a map listing. We’ll continue that discussion there.

Best wishes

Derek

Hi @ErmesT

Thanks again for the quick response, much appreciated.

All 71 photospheres had very accurate GPS coordinates written into the EXIF data, I manually made sure of this, though I suspect there was some rounding when uploaded to Street View, but they appeared in the correct position (within a 1 metre or so).

I’ve tried with both android and investigated with iOS. The screen shot below shows the iOS app. The red dot indicates the untagged photospheres in there correct location. The red dot on the left indicates those photospheres that I tagged with the business name. They should be in the same position as those on the right.

Hope I have explained this well enough.

I’ve not yet concluded if this is purely cosmetic as a person uploading to Street Views, or impacts end users.

Best wishes

Thank you @DerekSt for the latest feedback.

I am tagging here @mihal20 , a Street View moderator, for checking your issue

Hi @ErmesT

I forgot to ask if you had any insight as to why I’m able to select all 71 photospheres at the location.

I’d like to double check on all connections, and when I do eventually tag them to a business, wish to ensure that they are all tagged at once and nothing is missed.

Many thanks and best wishes

Derek

Thank you @ErmesT .

In the meantime, I’ve got some painting / decorating to do, hopefully we’ll have news when I get back.

Hi All

This is a rewording of a previously unresolved question, more specific, and with more detail. Hopefully I can get an answer, or someone can let me know how to bring it to the attention of the app developers (if that’s what is required).

Using the Street View app on an android tablet, I have uploaded and published a collection of 71 photospheres. I’ve manually linked them.

Within the linking tool within the app, I can see that all the connections are made. Using the preview window at the bottom of the screen, I “walk” the tour by tapping on the location numbers that are overlaid on the panorama. In this way I have walked back and forward along all routes of the tour, and they work fine.

Yet when I click on a photosphere thumbnail within the app, and then walk the tour from one photosphere to another, not all the locations are linked. I’ve waited more than 24 hours. Indeed, I’m seeing the same problem on tours I published over a month ago. Waiting does resolve the problem.

Sometimes I can enter a photosphere from another photosphere and find no arrows at all.

Sometimes I can enter a photosphere from another photosphere and find only an arrow taking me back the way I came, when there should be an arrow going forward.

Sometimes I can enter a photosphere from another photosphere and see two arrows superimposed on top of each other, as shown in the photo below.

To remind you, this is all within the Street View app. And yes, the problem is reflected on when viewing with Google Maps and Google Earth.

You can see an example from a Street View Tour published in April at https://goo.gl/maps/wcdsF5BhdsqhKbZ47 in which there are links forward to the church porch, and around to the left around the back of the church.

This problem is endemic in all the Street View tours I have tried to create over the last few months. If I’m doing something wrong, I’d love to know what it is.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Some news I’ve found a way to select all 71 photospheres.

If I open the Android app, select “Profile” without zooming or panning, a thumbnail for 50+ of the tour will appear. There are no other thumbnails.

Then, if I refresh the list by swiping down on the “profile” section, the photosphere count for for the tour thumbnail will increase to 71 and thumbnails for other tours and individual photospheres will appear.

There appears to be a limited chance to do this before it will fail to group all 71 photospheres under one thumbnail, and the number is back down to 50+. This will happen for example if the device goes into standby.

When this happens ensuring that I’m zoomed all the way out, don’t have the UK in view (the tour is in the UK), switch between “Featured”, “Explore”, and back to “Profile”, and refresh again, the thumbnail count returns to 71, at least sometimes.

Hi @DerekSt ,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

Can you please provide us the links to Maps of some of these 360 photos for which the blue dot does not correspond to the business address? We will need to have a closer look at them. :slightly_smiling_face:

In the meantime I added you to the list of trusted users that don’t have the trusted badge here on Local Guides Connect and can’t access the dedicated SV trusted board.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thank you @ErmesT for tagging me. :slightly_smiling_face:

Have a nice day,

my fault @mihal20 - Hope now you have a better view

Hi @DerekSt - I am merging here your three post related to subject that are very similar, and/or related to a common issue. In this way it will be easier to check

Hi @mihal20 , @ermest.

Thank you for adding me to the trusted user list and in trying to help me with this problem.

I had deleted the previous photospheres which had been moved when tagged. So just tagged three of the 71 photospheres, and let’s see what happens.

The screen shot below show the three are now represented by the three dots on the left. This is a private house unrelated to the business location on the right.

When a large quantity of photospheres have been moved, I’ve tried to edit to locations and what appears is a diagonal row of numbered circles extending south eastward.

As requested, this is a link to one of those three images I have just moved; https://goo.gl/maps/fVAvwuXhCJgusBz27 The link was taken after the tagging, but whilst Google Maps showed the location in the original place. I’m not sure if there is a proliferation time.

This is a link to one of the untagged photospheres; https://goo.gl/maps/H1UBSiYVfcqKoj8V7 which is in the correct location.

If you need anything else, please let me know.

Best wishes

Derek

Hi, @DerekSt ,

About the case where the position is published when published on the web even if the position information is aligned using the SV App.
I have not solved it yet.
However, there is a post that summarizes the symptoms, so I will introduce it.

「Uploading with a LISTING from the SV App causes many bugs, from last Sep.」
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Uploading-with-a-LISTING-from-the-SV-App-causes-many-bugs-from/m-p/2145561#M677001

Also, regarding location information and connection between photos that are not reflected on the Web as specified, I will improve with the method proposed by Street View Moderator @Martina_DE .
The original SV is in a terrible state in which SVs placed on land are thrown out to the sea.
I am currently working on a fix. Please look forward to the transition.
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Street-View-Discussion/How-long-before-SV-connections-are-ok-between-all-panos/m-p/2572104/highlight/true#M43839

In addition, even if the accurate location information is written in EXIF, it is known that the accuracy drops when importing into SV App.
「Import function of SV app loses longitude accuracy.」
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Street-View-Discussion/Import-function-of-SV-app-loses-longitude-accuracy/m-p/2201059#M41951

I feel that the current SV system has rewound to the situation around December last year to eliminate the symptoms that occurred in March.

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Street-View-Discussion/Only-still-images-with-listings-are-clickable/m-p/2560449/highlight/true#M43741

I hope that one day the SV system will work normally.

Hi, @mihal20 ,
I understood that you gave @DerekSt temporary access to the SVTP board by this comment. Is it correct?

Hi @DerekSt
It’s a pity that you couldn’t read the exclusive SVTP board. But I believe you will soon be able to read it.

Although the SV system has troubles at all times, the SV has the appeal of surpassing it.
So I take 360-degree photos every day and make SVs. I have different troubles every day using it.
To quest and overcome it is my pleasure.

Taking advantage of recent troubles, I made a game called “Street View Quest”.
However, this problem was fixed last week and the game no longer holds.
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/How-to-view-the-Unclickable-SVs-STREET-VIEW-QUEST-XIX-stage-1/m-p/2548905#M893777

I made another game. This obstacle continues today.
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Show-SV-that-is-invisible-as-blue-in-Google-Maps-STREET-VIEW/m-p/2554438#M897541

While trying various operations like @DerekSt , you may find a good solution.
Ideally, you should be able to use an SV system that does not have any problems. But that time will not come.
However, if you understand the symptoms of the trouble, you may find a workaround.
If you come across new troubles or find a good solution, let us know again on this board.

Hi @potaro67 .,

@DerekSt and some other users are trusted but for some reason they don’t have the badge here on Connect and can’t access the SVTP board.

We sent a list of the affected users to the engineering team and we really hope in a fast resolution.

For the moment @DerekSt can’t open the posts in the SVTP and even access it.

Thanks a lot for jumping in and for helping!

Best,

Mihal
