Street art heaven in Frankston - and The Big Picture Festival

My home suburb Frankston that I recently moved into and have worked in for the last five years run The Big Picture Festival every March where they invite local and overseas street artists to come and paint up the town. Last year in 2019 the following contributions brightened the atmosphere. This helps combat destructive tagging as people seem unwilling to deface art for the most part. These paint pieces range from small ones tucked away down alleys to massive ones that cover three story buildings that you can see from plenty of places around town. The 2020 festival is about to start (see the web link above) 20-22 March and I’m looking forward to it. I ran a photowalk late last year [recap] that quite a few people came to. Frankston has a bit of an image problem and is often the butt of jokes. I do my bit through Local Guides to ensure our suburb becomes better known for its colourful art.

Of course there’s plenty of unofficial art too - some of it is really good like these pieces by Illy that appeared a few days ago on the path I cycle to work.

I love exploring around here to find more art.

The idea for the “Street Art Heaven in [city]” belongs to @AniaKiser when she shared here great Castro Street Art on this post .
