Strange but True - Notifications sent by Google

Hello Fellow LGs,

I have come across very interesting fact about Google notification which we used to get. The primary purpose of such notifications is to further motivate and encourage LGs to contribute more and more.

Google must do some sanity check before sending the notifications. It should not be as random as in the below examples.

In Photo1 and Photo2, I have depicted the photos shared by me a weeks ago which has got significant impact in terms of the views. Photo1 has reached 129K views and Photo2 has reached 18K views. For these two photos (there are many more but I have taken these two just for explanation here), I have not received any notification from Google.

And, on contrary, I have got the notification as ‘Your photo is popular’ for Photo3 which has only 66 views. Quite strange!

I am sure as a Local Guide many of you must have come across such situation. Please comment in the post comment section with your experience.

Yes indeed, @Kumaarsantosh , and I have my opinion about that: Places with a lot of view are businesses that are visited by many people, and searched in maps too. They don’t really need a big support by the Local guides, even if for us it is a great satisfaction to have a big number of view.

But the help that our 66 views are giving to a small business is much more relevant.

To mention myself, I could repeat what I wrote in Is it only a matter of numbers? Is a million views of our photo in a famous shop worth more than a thousand views in a small shop in a rural area? Which of the two did we help the most?

So I personally do not see this as an issue to be solved, @Abdullah720 , but on the contrary, as a behavior to beencouraged, if we like to really help the local and small businesses

Once again you won my heart @ErmesT .

What a wonderful explanation with a feel of support to most needy than just to appreciate those who are already at height.

If whatever you have said in response is the only truth behind this I am all in for it.

Thank you!

You are most welcome @Abdullah720 .

See the beauty of this place. What an insightful explanation we got from our beloved @ErmesT .

I sense human angle of logic than just a theoretical logic behind his explanation which is more apt for the community.

Hope you agree with me.

I want to tell you a story, @Kumaarsantosh

On the evening of last Sunday I was traveling with my friend Stanley (more details in Flat Stanley Went to Italy - the prologue ) to show him something about the “Giro d’Italia” (here in Wikipedia). When the Giro d’Italia passes through a village, everything is decorated. I noticed a couple of shops (a florist and a greengrocer ) with beautiful pink decorations (pink is the color of the race) in front of the road.

In looking them up in Maps I found they had zero photos and very few reviews.
Yesterday I went shopping there, I asked them if I could take pictures and what they wanted me to take pictures of, and I explained to them how to claim the business in Google Business profile.

Now they have only my photos. The photos have only a few views, but the happiness of the owners was incredible, and mine too.

Very nice of you @ErmesT .

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful story. This gives us more reasons to look for such avenues to help and guide more and more people who are running small businesses. In this way we could help them in just a little way but the happiness we get is multiplied geometricallly with their happiness and satisfaction.

I have visited these shops on maps through the link florist and greengrocer .

Very much impressed by your photos taken just 3 days back at Florist shop and at Greenrocer as recent as today…

My prayers and blessings are there with the owners of these shops. May they grow big.
