- Why does Google guides not award points earned? What is the point of offering them and just letting disappear? Unless you want people not to participate.
Hi @1Richlisa123 , thanks to reach out.
I’m sorry to hear that. There are a lot of factors for missing points. But the most common are two:
-
Please check in your settings if your answer activity is enabled to delete your answers after a period. When it is enabled, your Local Guides points will be removed for those contributions. You can read more about that here and change the setting to manual deletion: How do I delete my answers to questions on Google Maps?
-
Points can also be removed if the contributions do not adhere to Google Maps User Contributed Content Policy.
A review or photo can be removed or marked as private so that you would lose these points.
I’m afraid that once it happens, it is not possible to get these points back.
Cheers Alexandre
In addition to the useful information given by @AlexandreCampbell , I suggest you also to check this post: What photos should I share on Google Maps?
In there you will find an interesting explanation of how to contribute and what to avoid:
What not to share
- Do not upload duplicate photos. Sharing the same photo more than once on one location or across multiple locations is a violation of our rules and policies and may result in your removal from the program. - Just to give you an example: Which McDonald is this: W Fairbanks ave or Lee Rd?
- Avoid sharing selfies and group photos. These photos don’t help to represent the location, so save them for a different platform.
- Avoid sharing low quality photos. Dark and blurry photos, or photos with low resolution don’t give helpful information about the location and may be removed.
Everything published against Google Maps guidelines, rules, and policies will be removed, with the related loss of Points.
Did you noticed a specific type of contributions where your point are missing? Please check Points, levels, and badging
Hey @1Richlisa123 ,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Please refer to @ErmesT and @AlexandreCampbell responses, as they provide full information on how to avoid such situations in future.
@1Richlisa123 , I would suggest not only taking the advice offered by @ErmesT on board going forward, but also actively removing any existing policy / rule violations – have a look through your contributions for duplicates and selfies. Otherwise you risk being removed from the program.
Good luck.
