#STATECHALLENGE: LOUISIANA: City Park, New Orleans, The Worlds Biggest Collection Of Live Oak Trees!

These are some photos I took of City Park in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I grew up. It is a special place to me. I placed on the leather strap swings and slid down metal slides in 100 degree weather (ouch!) as a child, over 50 years ago.

Then it was my husband and I’s special place when we were very young teenagers. We carved our initials into a tree there and threw a key into the lagoon as a sign of our undying love. We rode our bicycles all over that place. We rode them into the Botanical Gardens and tried to balance them on the brick planters and got yelled at (it was not as fancy then).

When we had our daughter, 39 years ago, we brought her there and swung her on the same swings that we had on on as children. The train was her favorite. There is a section called Storyland, where we all have played as well.

Men used to duel under the oak trees in City Park in the 1800s. The park has the biggest collection of mature live oak trees in the world! There are oak trees older than 600 years.

Hurricane Katrina had devastating effects on the Park, as it did on the rest of the area, but the Park was revitalized and now has many improvements along side the historical structures. @Denise_Barlock

I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans. It’s been on my bucket list for quite some time now, so hopefully one day I’ll get the chance to experience this beautiful place.

Thank you so much! @KlaudiyaG , I hope that you will visit City Park in New Orleans one day. Sometimes people think that New Orleans is just about Mardi Gras, but New Orleans, and Louisiana in general, is so much more than that. I know you would love all the history and nature we have to offer.
