Route 66 was the main highway for people who migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl It was made famous in the hit song “Get Your Kicks On Route 66” and the “Route 66” TV series, as well as the novel, “The Grapes Of Wrath”. Well on the day we traveled, we got caught up right in the middle of a small town 4th of July parade! It ended up being kind of fun.
Then of course we decided to stop at the Hoover Dam .Currently the Dam is closed until further notice, so no tours. We didn’t tour that day, but took photos and were amazed! The dam is on the Colorado River which separates Nevada and Arizona.
But finally, 6 hours later, we arrived at the Grand Canyon. It cost us $20 for our car to enter in 1991. It looks like today, depending where you enter it is anywhere from free to $35 for seven days. Grand Canyon Entrance Fees Worth every penny!
The sheer size and depth was hard for our eyes to take in. It didn’t seem real! And at that time you could walk out right up to the edge. There were a few areas with a rail, but other than that, it was just a giant hole you could fall into! There was no Sky Walk at that time. I remember there were these 2 teenagers lying right on the edge. We asked a park ranger if that was OK. He said that they warn people, but ultimately it was up to each individual to exercise the amount of caution they wanted too. In 2015, 55 people fell off the rim of the Grand Canyon
Despite this it is a natural wonder The photos you see were taken with an old time One Step. The kind that shot out the picture and it developed right there! The wide ones were from a disposable panoramic camera that you dropped the film off at a developer. They weren’t in drug stores then, but little drive through huts! And you had to wait for days! And yes, that is lynneannec with my natural black hair color! And I am only 43! And this was before I lost weight and got in shape. To think my daughter is 40 now!
I hope you enjoyed this post about Arizona as much as I enjoyed writing it!
