Starting the Day with a Sustainable Morning Breakfast in Trivandrum ♻️ ☀️

Hy Local Guides, :sun:

Trivandrum has an unmistakable culinary charm when it comes to pure vegetarian dining. Wherever you find yourself across the city, you are never more than a short walk away from at least two or three traditional vegetarian restaurants serving the community from dawn to dusk. What makes these spots truly iconic is their adherence to timeless tradition: meals served piping hot over fresh banana leaves placed on classic stainless steel plates, accompanied by traditional steel cups and tumblers. It is an enduring dining culture that turns a simple morning meal into a comforting ritual.

Who would love an early morning breakfast like this? Morning walkers concluding their dawn routines, daily commuters fueling up before office hours, families bonding over nostalgic flavours & food explorers mapping local heritage all find common ground here. The appeal of a warm South Indian tiffin is universal because it balances freshness, rapid table turnover & comforting flavors.

During a recent morning in the city, I stopped by Annapoorna, situated near the iconic Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, to have a tasty & hot breakfast. I opted for a timeless classic: a set of freshly fried puris paired with a steaming cup of South Indian filter coffee :hot_beverage:.

The plate arrived carrying that signature aesthetic - golden, puffed-up puris resting atop a fresh cut of banana leaf inside a steel platter. Serving the meal on natural banana leaves with reusable stainless steel tableware not only preserves an old tradition but also actively promotes eco-friendliness ♻️ by cutting down on single-use disposables and waste. The puris were light, airy & gently crisp on the outside, releasing a puff of steam when torn open. Accompanied by a comforting bowl of mildly spiced potato bhaji and fresh coconut chutney tempered with mustard seeds, every bite delivered that classic harmony of texture and spice. To wrap up the meal, a hot filter coffee :hot_beverage: provided the perfect energizing finish before heading out for a day of exploring and mapping.

From an accessibility :wheelchair_symbol: standpoint, it is important to note that the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible, as the entrance has steps leading inside without a ramp. Customers with reduced mobility or those using assistive mobility devices may require manual assistance to navigate the entrance.

Here’s :backhand_index_pointing_right:t3: my review of the restaurant.

In a city brimming with vegetarian dining spots on every corner, places like Annapoorna remind me why this breakfast tradition never goes out of style.

What breakfast did you have this morning to kick off your day? Do your local neighborhood spots also serve meals on banana leaves or any sustainable :recycling_symbol: way of serving? I love to hear about the go-to breakfast spot in your city.

The first time we went shopping at Trivandrum Central, we discovered ‘Annapurna’- the best budget-friendly hotel - after we finished shopping their vegetarian food is absolutely amazing and easy on the pocket. Thank you, @Rahul001 for bringing back such a wonderful memory.

Absolutely, dear @Rahul001 - I’d love to have a hot breakfast served on Banana leaves with Tea or Coffee to complement the puri :face_savoring_food:

This gives me more reasons to travel to Trivandrum - one more time.

On the previous visit, I did enjoy the breakfast in TVM - though it was not on banana leaves - so next time - sure :handshake:

Yummy poories @Rahul001 and the coffee looks inviting. My favourite dish, who will say no to it. A great picture of Poori and really you are a master photographer. Your observations about Accessibility is really a good and helpful contribution. Keep contributing.
