On my second day in New York City (NYC), I decided to treat myself and have a nice breakfast. Luckily, not far from the hostel I stayed, there is Clinton St. Baking Company, one of the most popular brunch restaurants in lower Manhattan. As I’ve mentioned in my previous brunch article, The Top 3 Brunch Places in Montreal, to enjoy a leisurely brunch, it’s important to arrive early so we don’t have to wait for too long, especially when it’s a trendy hot spot. The place opens at 8 am and I got there at around 8:10 am. What happened later proves that it’s a wise decision. The moment I arrived, the place wasn’t half full yet, however, not even 30 minutes passed, all the tables were taken and there were people queueing.
The early bird catches the worm, and the early foodie gets the pancakes. The two most popular dishes of Clinton St. Baking Company are chicken and waffles, and pancakes. I wanted to have something sweet so I ordered the signature pancakes with warm maple butter. They have three flavors, wild blueberry, banana walnut, and chocolate chunk, and I had the blueberry one. Usually, I’m more a waffle person than a pancake person, but their pancakes are really good. The warm maple butter is also a must-try, and I think it’s a better fit to pancakes than maple syrup. In brief, it’s an enjoyable breakfast and an awesome way to start a day!
Thank you for sharing this location and these great photos with us, it seems that you had great fun and above all, some delicious food!
I’ve never had any pancakes at a bakery or at a restaurant, as it is not so famous where I live. However, I do make some on my own, but still I’m not sure how close they are to the original taste.
If there is one single thing that you would recommend from this bakery, what would it be?
I am definitely on team pancake! I love the warm and extra fluffy, so yours looked delicious. Also, those topping options looked great. I’ve never had maple butter, but it sounds like I need to!
Hi @ChanneLing . Very yummy your pics… When I’ve been in NYC I had pancakes for breakfast almost every day. It’s not common here in Brazil. Pancakes with blueberry or with honey are my favorites.
Hi @BorrisS ! It’s cool that you know how to make it. I’ve tried a few time and found that it wasn’t too difficult to make one, but it’s quite hard to make a perfect colored and shaped one.
The two most popular dishes in this bakery are pancakes and chicken waffles so I think it really depends. If you want to have something sweet, pancakes would be the thing; if you want to have something salty and savory, chicken waffles would be the one then.
Thank you for the comment @JordanSB ! I appreciate it!
I agree with you, the fluffy is just irresistible. Also, I was pretty surprised by the popularity of pancakes in the US when I made my trips there. Literally, every hotel and hostel I stayed serve it as breakfast lol.
Hi @AlexandreCampbell , yes I totally understand. Pancakes seem very US style. Like Brazil, it’s not common in Taiwan, Canada, nor France. Of course, it’s possible to find it, but mostly only in American restaurants, brunch places, or McDonald’s.
Once again a restaurant perfect for brunch, and with very detailed and nice photos that make you feel as if you were there (and also eat what they show). I’m craving for some hot chocolate and pancakes right now!
Although there are some delicious waffles out there, I prefer pancakes. Especially the fluffy kind you shared. Pancakes here are flat and larger, and you put ingredients on top and fold them. They are pretty good, but the fluffiness in yours look amazing.
P.S.: You seem like the perfect person to ask for the best brunch restaurants wherever, I might ask you in San Jose
Brunch (or grand breakfast) is definitely one of my favorite meal choices since I consider myself more a morning person and a bountiful plate of food is the biggest reward for early birds.
Can’t wait to meet you in person! I should start doing research on what to eat in San Jose and Cali!
