Coming to I/O and looking for a fun way to get some exercise AND hang out with other I/O Attendees or local Local Guides??? I went out and did a scouting mission on this one and I have to say, INCREDIBLE!!! We’ll start our morning at the Piers Ln/Alpine Rd entrance. Look for my little red Ford Thunderbird parked along Alpine! “I AM HERE!”. The hike is a moderate to easy hike. The paths are all paved and wide enough for jogging strollers so bring the kids! We’ll make our way up to the Satellite Dish, passing through eucalyptus tree stands buzzing with all kinds of flying wild life. If you’re a bird watcher, there are tons of woodpeckers and other birds up there to watch. Right now, it’s all green and alive. The smell of the fresh cut grass in some areas is intoxicating Once we reach the Satellite, we’ll wander over to the Wilcox Solar Observatory (http://wso.stanford.edu/) for a look around. After that, we will return by the path we came. Once back to our vehicles, we can head over to the Mountain View CalTrain Station for the weekly Farmer’s Market for some food! There’s a burger stand there that is just incredible! There’s a whole lot more good stuff ready to eat there but the burgers are MY goal! They sell out every weekend! This event is FREE to attend.
If you come along to the Farmer’s Market after the hike, you will be responsible for your own food purchases. Want some idea of what the hike might be like? Here’s a link to the photos I took last Sunday when there scouting it out.
