St. Patrick's Day Parade (Wilmington, DE)

This year, I dug up my green clothes and my camera to head out to the St Patrick’s Day parade in my nearby city of Wilmington, Delaware.

I had never attended before, but being more engaged with the Local Guides community has inspired me to go out and explore in new ways! Plus, the event was free to attend, which is always a nice incentive.

The festivities were really great! There were a lot of people of all ages both watching and participating. Some of the highlights of the parade included Irish step dancers, live musical performances (including bagpipes and accordions), and lots of free candy!

Attending the parade made me realize that despite living here for so many years, there is so much more of my community to explore. For instance, I did not know there was an Irish Culture Club of Delaware prior to this event. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many cultural organizations in my little state. It was lovely to see all the musicians and dancers putting on their best performances.

The parade ended with a hooley, a celebration of traditional Irish music and dancing.

My question now is, are there any Irish Local Guides out there who have attended similar celebrations? Or different Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations? Does anyone know more about any of the costumes pictured? I’d love to hear your stories!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Hi @Casira ,

Happy St. Patrick’s day with delay.

I really enjoyed watching the picture of this post, and I felt the Irish spirit by reading it. I will suggest you to have a look to this great post regarding the celebrations of yesterday See the Chicago River turn green for St. Patrick’s day, to prolong the celebrations.

Thank you @Sorbe !

I did just learn yesterday that the river gets dyed in Chicago. I think that’s such a cool tradition! I’ve never seen anything like it
