The Sri Lanka Local Guides are going to start a road trip to cover the meetups organised for the Map Your World Week 2017. We are planning to do lots of fun activities during this week, while we are contributing to the Google Maps.
The journey will start on March 16, 2017, at 6.00 pm and it will be ended on March 19, 2017, at Kalutara. We will visit Batticaloa, Kandy, Colombo and Kalutara. We are planning to meet some local guides from different cities on our way.
The Itinerary of the journey is shown on the map below. We will update the details/photos of our road trip in coming dates.
@TraciC this time continuous map editing in different cities, and meeting new local guides . This is the first time we are having continuous meet-ups in Sri Lanka. This will be rely awesome and we will share all our photos and videos in our shared album.
On our way we met @RajithaP and had a nice time with him. He should us his working place and explained how our mobile phones get signals. Thanks @RajithaP
We had our dinner somewhere between Kurunegala and Dambulla.
We were stopped at few places by traffic police and as soon as they see the Sri Lanka Local Guides sticker on our vehicle, they allow us to go without asking a question. It was really nice!!!.
Mapping the world around us! Following the mapping sessions in Batticaloa, our local guides gathered from various places of Sri Lanka joined hands to fill my Sri Lankan map with each aspect unique to the places. Also successfuly hosted the Geo walk and map editing. (I will edit the video and post soon)
Thank you, Udaya for hosting a lunch for the Sri Lanka Local Guides. We really appreciate it. @RajithaP Your friend is a very nice person. Thanks for introducing level 5 local guide from Kandy.
@TraciC@YanniY See how fellow local guides helps to improve the Google Maps in their cities. Udaya is an active Level 5 Local Guide from Kandy and he is a businessman. He explained to us how Google Map has helped him to save time by providing alternative routes in Google Maps.
Yesterday, while I was participating Batticaloa Local Guides meetup, I went to the Hatton National Bank of Batticaloa to deposit some money.
I was wearing a Sri Lanka Local Guides T-Shirt, and the person at the counter asked me “Are you a local Guide?”. I said yes, and he said he is also a local guide and he has 100+ points. It was a nice sudden meet of a fellow Local Guide.
Nice was to meet you Edward, hope you would continue your mapping for years to come.
