Sri Lanka - Ibbankatuwa proto-historic Megalithic burial site

This burial site is located in the river bank of Dambulu oya and is known to be existing over 2700 years ago approximately around 600 B.C. The Architecture of this burial site is amazing, human ash is kept in clay pots and is buried inside chambers constructed and marked with erected granite slabs.

This also shows a culture that people who have lived in this period have practiced incineration of carcasses and have buried them. Few containers were have been recorded to be found in cylindrical shaped vessels and inside them have been found some smaller containers with some beads made of clay and some other minerals and some were even painted in gold.

I could see this place being nicely landscaped without disturbing the natural beauty with special considerations of accessibility in almost all the places while facilitating foreign travelers. For instance, check out the picture of the sign directing to the restrooms.

Overall this place is very nicely designed and is preserved for travelers who are curious about ancient history.

@FaridTDF We have many archeological sites in Sri Lanka, @AnuradhaP also doing some great things for archeology in Sri Lanka

I have visited Ritigala few years before and this is one of my best places ever visited. I felt I’m lost with nature

Also, I have hosted a meetup in Anuradhapura where we can see many archeological sites, you may like this meetup album.
