You’ve all probably heard of NASA and more recently SpaceX. Did you know that New Zealand also has a space mission and launch pad?
Rocket Lab was founded by a New Zealander, Peter Beck, who was born in Invercargill, New Zealand.
Rocket lab has had over 80 successful launches and to date put 53 satellites in orbit. They are doing a lot of work for NASA as well as doing space missions for countries around the world. Their website allows you to Book a Launch online. It’s amazing what you can do online today.
The Rocket Lab launch pad is at Mahia Peninsula, on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
I thought I would share this with you because you here often in the news about rockets being launched in the USA, but don’t hear much about rockets being launched from elsewhere.
Does your country have a space mission?
Although I’m not a space rocket fan, I’m very proud of New Zealand and successful New Zealanders (Kiwis). We may have a small population (just reached 5 million), but we do have many successes. In mentioning the population of NZ, I remember growing up in NZ when the population was below 3 million.
I’ve watched its last rocket launch mission, @TheEagleEye
Their mission had cute names. Lol
After watched the rocket lauch I try to look at the peninsula. But unfortunatelly there’s not much streetview photos available. But really beautiful place
That sounds fascinating! I didn’t even know that New Zealand has a space mission and launch pad. It must have been a memorable experience seeing a rocket launch. I am waiting for your 360 photos from this place once you have the chance to go back there.
Hello @TheEagleEye interesting post. I like science . I remember watching documentary about the company, Rocket lab when it starts its first launch. Over the years it has perfected the rocketry technology. It’s great feat for New Zealand given moderate population . Hope other countries emulate this.
