Hi, my name is Giovanni and I live in southern Italy and, to be precise, in Foggia at the north of Puglia.

I love my city and my province, but, despite Puglia with its 940 kilometers of coastline, his amazing food and pretty rural countryside, the province of Foggia is not known.

In this province, called also “Daunia” or “Capitanata”, we have a lot of beautifull panorama, sea, montain, castles, a national park, two UNESCO sites, islands, events and amazing typical food, but there are also big problems like unemploiment e criminality. This is unbelivable considering all the natural aboundance under our feet.

To be short, tired to see my territory soffering, after 9 years spent living and working in Rome, I decided to left all and move back to my born city.
The COVID pandemic did not help me, but I put all my passion on my moto for a tour of all “61 commons of Daunia”.

During the trip, I tried to see all the known towns with first time tourinst’s eyes to understand deeply why this area do not take-off as the rest of the reagion. I tasted all I can, explored all unknown broken roads, I spoke with all the old mans and ladies meet and I understood!

This area is unknown also to his own residents.
A town do not collaborate with the near, the products are taken the big industries and labeled as from other reagions, and so on.
With social media I shared some taken pictures and told the stories learned, but it is not enought!

I think all the world deserves to know this beautifull site, and fot this reason, I started to tell the province on Google Maps.
How a touris does find someting to see if not exists on Google?

For this the project buonoNet (Link redacted), the net of good things, was born.

benvenuto qui su Connect, il forum ufficiale delle Guide Locali! E’ sempre bello trovare un altro italiano, tra l’altro anche del sud perche’ anche io sono diciamo cosi “terrone”, sono napoletano anche se vivo da diversi anni a Lucca.

Grazie per la tua presentazione e il racconto di quello che cerchi di fare. Le Guide Locali, come noi, sono proprio un ruolo chiave nel far conoscere i nostri territori, le nostre usanze, i nostri sapori proprio perche’ siamo locali e quindi li conosciamo. Con la nostra passione e dedizione possiamo innazitutto contribuire ed aiutare gli altri a trovare appunto tutte le informazioni utili tramite contributi di qualita’ su Google Mapes e poi condividere le nostre storie.

Potresti iniziare a scrivere degli articoli qui su Connect sulla tua terra, in piu’ potresti per esempio creare tour virtuali utilizzando Google Earth come fa per esempio @ErmesT , pero’ ti chiedo di non fare strettamente pubblicita’ al tuo blog qui su Connect perche’ ogni forma di pubblicita’, anche personale, e’ strettamente vietata.

Your intentions sounds wonderful.

Your means in the form of creating a blog, touring on your motorbike, posting on Instagram and Facebook and now on Connect proabably needs done fine-tuning.

A one man mission wil run out of steam at some point. So creating excitement and involving others is probably a nessesary step.

How do you plan to use Google Maps?

How do you plan to enable and motivate locals in improving the visibility of your region on Google Maps?

Have you tried to team up with local tourism entities?

grazie per la tua opinione, ho bisogno di un aiuto per ottimizzare il grande sforzo.

Tutto infatti è finanziato unicamente dalla mia passione. Sto cercando vari modi per unire questo ai miei lavori così da raccogliere materiale quando viaggio per lavoro.

Come miglioreresti il discorso social? Cosa mi consigli di fare?

Ho provato a coinvolgere altre persone, ma il problema è proprio la mancanza di sinergia e l’assenza quasi totale degli enti locali.

Gli unici interessati purtroppo, sono gli speculatori e quelli che vogliono guadagnare sul lavoro gratuito degli altri.

Cosa potrei fare per avere un impatto maggiore secondo te?
Sto pubblicizzando il materiale pubblicato su Google Maps, ma è difficile non essendoci un vero e proprio profilo Google Local Guide.

Al momento, senza nessuna organizzazione precisa, i miei contenuti hanno raggiunto ad oggi 4.2 milioni di visualizzazioni e la maggior parte del materiale non ho il tempo di pubblicarla.

Al momento navigo a vista e cerco di ottenere tutti i badge possibili sperando di avere visibilità per il mio file, puramente spirituale.

Trying to make a living or just earn a few bucks from being a Local Guide is honestly unrealistic. Furthermore, it is a clear violation of the terms you accepted when you signed up as a Local Guide.

So my best advice would be to apply for a position at the local authorities responsible for attracting tourists to your area.

My motivation is the joy of knowing that I’m helping a lot of people and businesses. Also, making new friends here on Connect can be considered a great peek. I find it very rewarding being a Local Guide.

Helping others through Google Maps is a hobby and fun activity. Not a job.
