South Lombok: Recommended Spots to Visit

Lombok is a beautiful island in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province in Indonesia. If some people think that Bali is overcrowded, escaping to Lombok is the best idea. Here are some recommended spots you can visit in South Lombok for one day. But, let me explain about transport and accommodation first.

TRANSPORT AND ACCOMMODATION

I think the best transportation to explore Lombok is a motorcycle. Most people try to rent a motorcycle in Mataram or Kuta because there are many rental there. People have to go by taxi or airport bus to reach Mataram or Kuta. Some people don’t know there was a rental near to the airport which can bring the motorcycle to the airport. So you can ride it directly from the airport wherever you go.

I and my friend booked two rooms for two days in Join Homestay. Just 5-10 minutes walking, we can reach Kuta Beach. FYI Kuta Beach is an accessible area for the traveller who wants to find accommodation. Join Homestay is a simple yet clean room with personal bathroom inside for a good price. We got a free banana pancake in the morning, but the taste is not good honestly.

Don’t worry, there are many homestays close to Kuta Beach. So, you can choose one of the best for you.

KUTA BEACH, SEGER BEACH, AND SERENTING BEACH

There are three beach that worth to visit: Kuta Beach, Seger Beach, and Serenting Beach

KUTA BEACH

After enjoying the morning breeze in Kuta we went back to the homestay, took a bath and slept for a while. Then, I went to Seger Beach which is in the coastline as Kuta Lombok. It just 2 or 3 kilometers from Kuta Lombok. We need maybe 10 minutes by motorcycle from Kuta Beach to go there. When you are visiting Kuta Beach, make sure to allocate your time to go to Seger Beach.

From the beach, I saw two people surfing there. For those of you who love surfing, Seger Beach can be used as surfing spot activities.

Then we went up to the hill. The view from there was magnificent. After enjoying the view and took some photos, we went down. It also because the day was getting so hot.

Seger Beach

Closest from Seger Beach, there is Serenting Beach which offers a beautiful view and calm water. There is a simple wood swing with Indonesian flag flying on the top. We played there and took some photos. There is no coral there, only covered with white sand.

SERENTING BEACH

We drank coconut water and enjoy the beach for a while before we went to the next destination.

Next, we were heading to Tanjung Aan Beach. I was impressed with Tanjung Aan because the sand was pure white, soft, and clean. The turquoise sea water was so mesmerizing. Then we decided to hike up to Bukit Merese. And OMG we were speechless, the view was so impressive! From the top of Bukit Merese, the blue turquoise ocean, the beaches, and the hills far away was an epic natural landscape view!

TANJUNG AAN AND BUKIT MERESE

Tanjung Aan beach view from Bukit Merese

The sun was kissing us lustfully from the hill, hahaha. We were hiding behind the big rock. Then we continued walking around the hill, tried to find another amazing spot. But, we couldn’t stay long there because of the weather is so hot. We went down directly.

We had our lunch in Kuta Beach. After that we wrapped up our trip today by visiting Mawun Beach. We just simply sat on the beach and sleep haha. Then Rian bought pineapple for two, one for me. We saw some people swim, children play at the beach, and buffaloes passed the beach lead by the shepherd.

That’s my story in the first day. See you on the next story about Lombok. Keep reading.

Hey @eviselvia ,

It sounds like you had a lot of fun! Not only you took some great photos but you enjoyed the island to the fullest.

Thank you for the detailed story and tips. I did not see any people on the beaches, is sunbathing allowed?

Hello! @MoniDi

In some beaches, sunbathing is allowed, but the others is not common. If you want to have sunbathing experience I recomered you to go to Mawun Beach (the last picture). A lot of people like to sunbathing or chilling there. Hope this is helpful

@eviselvia : Thanks for sharing your recommendations in Lombok! I did go to Kuta beach when I was there about 1.5 years ago and really enjoyed my time there.

I especially enjoyed visiting a pink sand beach, have you heard of it?

The sand isn’t actually that pink but the beach is very secluded and not too busy!

I visited Lombok three years ago and it was really amazing. South Lombok and Mawun Beach was a highlight with the high waves. Thats when my sons fear of the ocean disappeared and he just loved being “tossed around” by the waves to an extent that we hoped he would fear it a bit more
