This is what I’m passionate about sharing as a Local Guide. Why?
I always hear from my friends living in different states that Adelaide is boring, laidback and is only good for retirement because, pitifully, the only activities here are fishing, camping and hiking. In my mind, a voice is saying: that’s what my family is presently doing! It means I’m already living a retirement life at a young age! LOL
When I got hooked on camping and hiking, I made sure to take advantage of holidays and long weekends by going to places we haven’t been to. As I always plan our next trip, I search for places in South Australia with the help of google. Only a few places have short articles or blogs on travel websites which are not that satisfactorily helpful and most of the time, there are no online photos to motivate me. That’s when I remember what my friends say about Adelaide: It’s boring!
Little did I know, that I was looking at the wrong sites. On one glorious day, I received an invite to be a local guide. That’s when I discovered that there are photos and reviews in this platform that enticed me more to try high rating restaurants and shops and do the same to help other locals and visitors get to know other establishments and places. What a brilliant platform! Now, I can easily share photos of the hiking trails while using google maps on our journey
Yeyyy!
Our First Wilderness Hiking
We went to Kangaroo Island solely based on word-of-mouth feedback that it is a costly trip but an amazing one. Since it was a too-late booking in a peak season, the available accommodations that were showing up are truly expensive. So I decided to book in a caravan park and camp instead. That was our first hard-core camping. While exploring, that’s when I discovered that there is no network signal on the island. That caravan parks offer nature beauties at very practical prices. That there are more koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, possums and various types of birds than people on the island. Most staggeringly, that the island has immaculate beaches and forests. Though it truly offers wilderness, however, it’s not the type that you would be scared of. It is the type that would make you appreciate hiking and exploring places that your friends haven’t heard of or haven’t been to. It would encourage you to share what you have seen and experienced to other people so they could enjoy and appreciate it too. It is just worth sharing! With these findings, it is beyond my comprehension why it is not all over the internet!
Here are a few photos that I took:
