Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif in Doha, Qatar, is one of the most ambient places to visit. There is a range of Arab cultures all in this one location, from Qatari, Moroccan, Turkish, Irani, to name just a few.

They are represented in clothing shops, jewelry, housewares, souvenirs, birds and other pets, and of course restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops.

Souq (Market) Waqif (Standing) is very popular amongst the local Qatari people, local expats (like myself and my wife), and many many tourists. It is winter here now in Qatar, although not a winter most of you are used to. Winter time in Qatar (and elsewhere in Middle East), is still quite warm during the day, about 26 - 28 degrees C (78 - 82 degrees F), and does get cooler at night. This time of year there are many tourists visiting because it is much cooler, and currently there are two cruise ships in port.

If you visit Qatar, this is one place you must visit. You can view my review and photos here.

It is quite interesting post. I have imagined how a Arabian market will look like.I am curious about Qatari culture .It is something I will like to experience. I will like to visit , walk through the market , take pics and haggle over price, buy perfume and clothing.

Hi @TheEagleEye ,

very nice photo, I love those local cultural spots. I’ve been many times to UAE but not yet to Qatar but I would love to visit it once.

Thank you for sharing!

Yes @Emmik20 the Qatari people are very nice, as are most people from Arab countries. I’ve lived in three Middle East countries; KSA, UAE, and now Qatar. I’ve also been to all the Middle East countries and have only been greeted with kindness.

You can haggle over price although things aren’t expensive and the traders do deserve to make a living. I hope you get to visit the Souq Waqif, and other souqs, such as the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.

Hi @LuigiZ . Souqs in most countries are enjoyable especially if they have culture and history. The Souq Waqif does have that, so does the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. I hope you get to visit Qatar one day, maybe for the 2022 FIFA World Cup if you are a football fan.

Hi @TheEagleEye

Thanks for sharing this post. My father used to work as an engineer in Qatar 4 Ys ago for about 6 Ys. And I was born in Kuwait. We are familiar to Gulf Countries, like you. Still you should come over here to Jordan and let us get-together . I got a friend from New Zealand in United States while we were military, and I still in contact with him.

Cheers

Thanks for message @OSAMA_1 . I’m sure your father enjoyed being in Qatar and being part of its growth.

I visited Kuwait in 2013 and enjoyed exploring Kuwait City and outside the city. That is interesting you were born there.

My wife and I have been to Jordan five times over the years, before I had any knowledge of LG Connect. We hope to visit again someday as we have enjoyed very much previously. I know many Jordanians mainly through work. Nice to know you know a Kiwi.

Hi @TheEagleEye . It is a real pleasure to know a Kiwi people , specially you are from a far distance land New Zealand. That’s good and increase my knowledge in this life about Nations.

I still remember my New Zealand friend Jim, had invited me and other friends in United States to his house to a day of New Zealand. each one brought his own traditional dish and we lined up a puffet of various food from different countries. I am sorry I’ve forgotten the name of this day ! It’s like an occasion held every year in New Zealand. I have photos from that day.

Respectfully :tulip:
