Soundtrack to a Walk - a new concept for Lists

Ever since the idea of creating lists of places on Google Maps was launched, I have been playing around with the idea of developing a somewhat unique concept for lists that combines places with songs. But I never came around to spending some time to actually work out the details (I mean: on top of the ‘regular’ local guide contributions, recording podcast episodes, preparing Meet-ups - oh yes, and my day job). Until ‘creating a List’ turned out to be one of the things you need to do to apply for Connect Live 2019 - that is obviously a strong incentive to free up some time

Although I highly appreciate lists like Things to see in City X or The best Pizza places in City Y, I want to offer lists that are not so much focusing on visiting the places on the list, but that are simply about walking from one place to the next (also to burn some of the calories collected when visiting those best pizza places). And to make this even more fun, I decided to pick the places on the list because of some or other link between that place (its name, location, shape, etc) and a song (the artist, the song title, the topic, etc).

The result is called Soundtrack to a Walk, which is the title of both a Google Maps list and a playlist on Spotify. The link between each place on the list and the accompanying song is explained in the comment of each place in the Maps list. The first one I have now released is Soundtrack to a Walk - Bochum, to be found on Google Maps and Spotify. Some specific examples of place/song connections on this list: when passing by a cinema there is a song by Two Door Cinema Club; one of the buildings has the shape that reminds of the symbol for infinity, so that is linked to Infinity by Infinity Ink.

And if you don’t happen to live in or visit the German Ruhr area (where Bochum is situated): no problem, you can of course also enjoy the playlist during any other walk you make.

@JanVanHaver Interesting, especially since making lists about great places to walk and hike in my area, is my favorite thing! But I think the idea behind lists is to focus on the places on Google Maps. The songs we enjoy put together as playlists is already very popular on another Google platform - Youtube. Perhaps a better way to combine the too would be in the comments section if the YouTube playlist, putting a link to the Google Maps list.
