Someone changed Road name to their house name

There is a road that is currently named ‘Valayil Rd’, Valayil being the name of one of the houses along it. It has been like that for quite some time (years actually). I’ve been trying to correct it for a long time time. But my edits to this particular road is not getting applied. The actual name of the road is ‘Pookoikapadi-Panachamoodu Road’. Moreover, the road is drawn slightly wrong. Can anyone help?

@AdrianLunsong ? Here’s the road:

Hi @NightFury

I can understand your frustrations.

Are you aware that local guides can not edit the names of roads? This is done by Google staff only. All you can do is send feedback on the particular road and hope it gets changed. In my experience it is easier to do on a computer compared to a phone.

Best of luck

PS: there might be local restrictions interfering with this.

Hello @NightFury

Instead of the flood relief work plaque, submitting a road name plate installed by a local authority would enhance the chance of approval.

Thanks for the tag @NightFury . I’m not very familiar with map editing to be honest; it can be quite time consuming, laborious and sometimes, frustrating when legitimate edits don’t get applied so it’s not something that I’m passionate about.

My basic understanding for map edits/feedback/change request is that one person submitting many similar requests is not as good as multiple people submitting the same requests. I would guess that Google’s algorithm would flag up a change if many people say that the information provided is incorrect. Flagging it up for review doesn’t necessarily mean it will change though.

The other thing to note as well is if the official name of the road is A, but it is more well known locally by people in the area as B, Google may favour using B as the name of the road. I’m guessing again!

Apologies that I can’t be more helpful about this. Maybe @sonnyNg can help out here.

Hi @NightFury ,

Thanks for reaching out to the community!

Much appreciated also, for having me mentioned, @AdrianLunsong , as we will have the case checked.

Just to be sure, would the submitted edits stay pending as status or got rejected right away, NightFury?

Thanks for the reply. The edits I give for this road is getting rejected quickly. I had asked other local guides in my area whether they can see it in review, but they say it is not visible to them. But pretty soon, the status of my edit changes to NOT APPLIED.

Sorry I don’t know the extent up to which the local guides can help in this issue. Anyway I had submitted it as a feedback explaining the issue. Waiting to hear back from Google. Thank you for your time.

You are partially correct about how the road is known. The older generation knows the name of the road by its correct name, say A. But the teens, who are born in Google generation knows the name B that they see in Google maps. That is one more reason why we should have the correct names in Google maps.
