Some sculptures at Dhaka, Bangladesh

There are many sculptures at Dhaka city, most of them are situated at Dhaka University campus. Others are in various parts of the city. On my ways, I took these photos and trying to present them before you. I choose them on a random basis, so some prominent sculpture will not be here in this post.

Janani o Gorbito Bornomala (Mother and the Alphabets)****: This sculpture is situated at Poribagh area, near the Bangla Motor Moor. This sculpture is done by Mrinal Haque. It is based on the theme of International Mother Language Day

Rajoshik (Kingly): Rajoshik is also done by Mrinal Haque. It is situated in front of the Intercontinental Hotel. This sculpture tells us the story of the previous Nawab and King’s lifestyle at that time.

Mausoleum of three leaders: In Bangla, it is known as “তিন নেতার মাজার”. The monument was designed by architect S.A.K. Masud Ahmad. To me sometimes it looks like the famous Sydney Opera of Australia. Graves of our great 3 leaders are here. It is situated near to another famous sculpture Doyel.

Microbus Wreckage: This sculpture is dedicated to our famous film director Tareque Masud and edia specialist and broadcast journalist Misuk Munir. They faced a tragic road accident on 13 August 2011 and died with others. Tareque Masud became famous worldwide for his film Matir Moina.

Aparajeyo Bangla: Aparajeyo Bangla is a very famous sculpture dedicated to the Liberation War of Bangladesh. It is designed by Syed Abdullah Khalid and situated in front of the Arts Faculty of Dhaka University. Every many visitors come to see this sculpture.

Anti Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture: The Raju Memorial Sculpture is one of the most famous sculpted works in the country and is located at the University of Dhaka. It was created by Shaymol Chowdhury in 1997 and is dedicated to the memory of Moin Hossain Raju, a student at the university. Raju was an activist who protested against terrorism and was shot dead.

Near the Raju Memorial there are other two famous sculpture: Shoparjito Shadhinota and Dr. Milon Sculpture. Raju Memorial, Shoparjito Shadhinota and Dr. Milon Sculpture all these are situated very close to the TSC of Dhaka University. Dada Chatwar and Memory Eternal are also not too far from the TSC.

I just tried to give you an idea about some sculptures near and inside of Dhaka University. They are famous to tourists from both home and abroad. If you come to Bangladesh you can keep them on your list to visit. All of the above will take around 2 hours. After that you can plan to see other attractive sculptures in various places in Bangladesh.

@Avraham_Jurado You are absolutely right. Almost every country in the world has some sculptures which are the symbols of history and culture of that country. In Bangladesh, most of the sculptures are based on the theme of our liberation war in 1971. We have some other prominent sculptures also. But they are minor in number on the basis of the theme.

I have read and seen your nice post on wooden sculptures. They are just amazing. They are the masterpiece of creativity. Thanks for sharing those nice sculptures.
