Local Guides host amazing meet-ups all around the world, and they share recaps of their experiences on Connect. Let’s take a look at some of the best recaps from December 2020. “[Recap] Let’s Check the Facts of Accessibility at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Dhaka”
@Kamalhasnainee and some of his fellow Local Guides took it upon themselves to visit the Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in Dhaka and check its accessibility features to share on Maps. They asked for special permission from the mall management to ensure that their meet-up follows the local health measures. You can learn more about their day and activities in the recap.
“(RECAP) Accessible Michigan -2- Virtual Meet-up”
Meanwhile, @Erna_LaBeau joined the Worldwide Accessibility Walk initiative by hosting the second part of her virtual “Accessible Michigan”’ series. In her recap, you will find examples of accessibility equipment, learn about the plans of Wayne City Councilman in Michigan, @AlfredBrock, to improve accessibility in the area, and more.
“[Recap] UN International Day for Persons with Disabilities - Contribute to improve Accessibility”
In December, @StephenAbraham hosted several meet-ups, both on- and offline. For the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, he met with Local Guides virtually to talk about his valuable way of contributing accessibility information on Google Maps. At the end of the month, Stephen got together with fellow Malaysia Local Guides for a photowalk around the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur mall, capturing the holiday spirit safely. His last meet-up for 2020 was a virtual hangout with almost 30 Kerala Local Guides, who discussed their Local Guides plans for 2021.
“[RECAP] Accessible Delhi - Episode 18 - Monuments”
In 2020, @TusharSuradkar pursued his passion for making his city more accessible by initiating a series of offline meet-ups to review the accessibility features of different locations. In December, he visited monuments, museums, public parks, and hospitals in Delhi and updated their information on Google Maps.
“RECAP : INDONESIA LOCAL GUIDES FESTIVAL 2020”
The Indonesia Local Guides got together virtually for a two-day meet-up. There were six sessions led by different Local Guides about Google Maps and Connect. They shared tips on supporting small businesses, contributing accessibility information on Maps, and more. “20201224 [RECAP]リモートのお供に!オススメお菓子の情報交換会”
@Anzu organized a virtual meet-up for the sweets lovers to recommend some of their favorite treats. They talked about snacks that are perfect for virtual gatherings, New Year’s Eve, and even mountain climbing. You can find photos and details about each dessert in Anzu’s recap.
“RECAP - Tradiciones Navideñas y Fin de Año en América”
For her first virtual meet-up, @masdesandra invited Spanish-speaking Local Guides to share about the Christmas and New Year’s traditions in their countries. In her recap, you will learn how people from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela celebrate these holidays. Do they decorate Christmas trees? When does Santa Claus deliver gifts to them? These are some of the interesting facts you can find here.
“[RECAP] Christmas Pizza Virtual”
For Christmas, @LuigiZ hosted a fun pizza get-together. Attendees talked about their favorite pizzas, what type of drink they pair it with, what a typical Christmas meal is like in their countries, and more. As passionate Local Guides, they even discussed thenew way of submitting meet-ups on Connect.

One of our 50 Guiding Stars for 2020 was @NareshDarji , who took the opportunity to host a virtual meet-up for Local Guides new to the program and Connect. He explained in the Gujarati language what each board is about and how the attendees can post and engage with the community. Some of the more experienced participants also shared their tips.
“[RECAP] Asado Semi-Virtual de Fin de Año”
Ten Local Guides from Argentina met for a barbecue outside to celebrate the end of 2020. Everyone took part in the organization of the event to ensure the safety and comfort of the participants. @Jesi described all that (and more) in her recap, where she also added some amazing photos and videos. Before starting the feast, the group connected virtually with Spanish-speaking Local Guides from around the world to celebrate together. Find out more in the recap.
