Hi, today I just look over my profile photos and I saw that some of them after 1 year at least were fine and published and now are hidden.
The place is still the same at same location (Geometrie Roti, Timisoara, Romania), I was 1 week ago near to ITP Modern but magically my photo dissapeared.
How this come?
Example:
Another one:
This is Fifty Five Bistro and happened the same location Romania, Timisoara.
I would like to understand what is happening, why so many bugs with Google Maps if I upload something and that is the reality. I need an answer…
Thank you!

@SIGILLUMDEI this also happened to me and many others here at Connect. There is nothing we can except, remove the photo, have carefully look at it it while rereading the rules, possibly crop it remove faces or text and then upload the modified version. At least in one case, it did work for me after removing a traffic sign and in another case, by removing a visible face (or what the AI considers to be a face).
In addition you might follow other threads here on Connect. Currently, I don’t have any link handy.

Hi @SIGILLUMDEI
There are major changes being made in the content moderation system these months. And the system is far from perfect. So maybe your photos were wrongfully removed.
Regarding your photo uploaded to 55 it looks very dark when seen in your screenshot.
Uploading such dark photos is against the guidelines for photos on Google Maps. So it might have been removed to a good reason.
The photo filter runs constantly and gets updated frequently. So it is not unusual to see pics be hidden after first being public.
Please open the photos. There might be an option for you to appeal the hiding if you click on Details. Please try.
Cheers
Morten

Thank you both! I will try to see what is in the Details.
It is not dark at all. No faces on details I can’t fiind how to rise a case. For the other same, mqybe just the car plate number is the problem. But for this one done at night I don’t understand.
@SIGILLUMDEI
The appeal option is likely only available for places within the EU.
Keep in mind that the reason might not be in the particular contributions but related to your overall performance as a contributor.
Please use the form called Account Investigation for contributions not visible on Google Maps if you believe that some of your contributions have been wrongfully unpublished. Keep in mind, it takes several weeks for the check to be done, and you will not be notified about the result, so I suggest you check the status of your reviews once a week or so.
Best of luck
Morten
@MortenCopenhagen reg.: “The appeal option is likely only available for places within the EU.”: I have the impression, it was never offered to me for places in Germany. The few times, I did see the link in the details, was very likely for Italy or France. Not sure though, but in far most cases, I did not see the option.
@SIGILLUMDEI for that picture, I would try two modifications:
- Crop in a way the dark part on top disappears
- If 1. doesn’t work, crop more, so the name plate on the left disappears
Personally, I gave up trying to understand, why a certain images was refused. Instead, I remove it, make a note for myself to remember, what has been refused and choose a different one. Which means, always make several different photos.

Others have great experiences with the appeals option that is currently being rolled out within the EU. It was initially being tested in France only. Often hidden contributions are made public within 2-3 days after the individual appeal.
All the best
