I ever try my best to put detailed and actual content into Google Maps, but sometimes the behaviour of the APP (android) is so strange that I lose my enthusiasm.
Yesterday I established a new Berlin location - a small restaurant where I went the first time.
Using my Android phone and the actual GM APP I fulfilled the whole form (name, kind, address, opening hours, opened when, phone number, URL and pictures) and send it. Afterwards the new entry was the first in my “Editing Tab” - but one hour later it disappeared.
So, I deleted the pictures and did everything a second time - now the entry is there but not checked finally - the pictures are visible under my “photos tab” but the location link points to somewhere in the sea…
I do not know what to do now – please give me a hand!
Beside, the count of reviews, answers, etc. differs between the info regarding me on localguides and the android app…
PS: If you developers are interested, I got a list of more than 15 additional issues which appeard the last 10 moths when working with GM on smartphone or Windows PC.
The best medicine when creating new places is patience. Google maps is running on a lot if different servers, so when your new place suddenly was missing it might be because it was not yet copied to all the servers. Please allow at least 24 hours before you try to re-upload something. I believe the moderators might ask you to wait 48 hours. Only the you can be sure additions and edits have propagated to all servers. Cheers from Copenhagen
Maybe I’m a bit spoiled - in Asia and Oceania the review and activation of the new location including the completion of email Google took only 10 - 30 minutes at about 50 places…
The problem with the different number of entries and the different display of content in the Android app compared to the Windows Chrome browser was unfortunately not disappeared even after more than 96 hours. Only when I re-uploaded supposedly missing images were they then suddenly duplicated …
As I said, I’ve over the time all strange behaviors with screenshots and notes lifted and d happy to pass on to interested developers.
There are several reasons for an edit to be pending or not applied. An edit can stay on Pending status for all the time that is needed to verify the information, and is NOT related to the area where you submit the edit.
Have you received an email with a thanks for your edit? If so, your edit has been received. Submitting the edit again can only confuse the AI
When I send the new location first time the given pictures and the entry only appeared under photo & edit tab, there was no “thanks for your edit” e-mail with it.
The photos got a location link to some weird coordinates and the entry under the edit tab disappeared after around 30 minutes.
When I mentioned the disappear, I deleted the photos an did the location entry again – then I received a “thanks for your edit” e-mail but it took more than 12 hours until the pictures appear under my photo tab – again with weird coordinates.
Regarding the my edit tab – I cannot believe in what is listed there, the last 12 moths I got various times corrupted and double listed entries – once for more than a week the same two entries more than 20 times in the list….especially confusing for me were entries where the system says “change not accepted” and when I check it, it has been changed like I placed the change order.
Another effect I mentioned is that the number of pictures I put to a review is not the same between Windows Chrome content and App, even when more than a week has passed.
Edits and uploads are processed in the background @ErikSeidel if something vanishes don’t add it again - it will reappear all by itself. This is normal in large distributed systems. Adding it again is likely to be seen as spamming.
It was the first time from nearly 400 that an entry at the edit-tab disappeared - in addition there was no confirmation e-mail - as a reflex, I submitted the entry again - sorry for that.
One problem for me is that entries which are fulfilled the same way act differently in the edit-tab. For example, some which are still under consideration appear with a thumbnail out of the given pictures - some not. Some are clickable and I can attach a review or pictures to them, regardless that they are still under consideration. Sometimes the same entry appears several times in the edit-tab and often the change entries got a not accepted tag, and if I check the change, it was taken over.
If everything would behave the same way, I would not be surprised and could accept it. But as I mentioned earlier, until today I did not experience that an entry for a new location that is fully specified could take several days to be cleared - in the case of Villa Cocosh it is now 4 days and still not cleared.
The thing that I advertised Google Maps to the owner as the number one tool - the place to be, and now he wants to take the ownership for this place in Google Maps but he still cannot after four days…
Another annoying thing is that when I check in advance if places are already in Google Maps I zoom into the area and if there are no entries, I start to edit those – but the moment I want to send a fulfilled edit the system it tell me that the place already exists.
There are a lot more effects I mentioned since I work every day with the platform – it would be nice to know if they are already in the dev`s backlog…
In my opinion it should be fun to work with Google Maps and this is mostly true, but it is annoying when you do a lot of work and then content disappear, images do not appear or laboriously written captions do not go online - just to mention a few further effects of the last 12 months.
We are aware of this, but wanted to give you some background.
This happens because the photos you have added on Google Maps are not attached to a particular point of interest or that point of interest has been removed.
Thank you for your reply and your investigation regarding the photos - in addition It would be nice if someone would investigate why the new entry itself has not yet been live yet, even though each field of the form has been filled out and thus the existence of the place would be easy to verify.
It has been a little over 3 weeks since I tried to create a new location - despite the following discussion, unfortunately, nothing has changed, that is why I will try to reach the goal otherwise.
