Solo Travel to Kuala Lumpur - The Beginning

Kuala Lumpur is a remarkable city with lots of tourist attraction. I have not explore every places yet, I think I will come there again someday.

My Top Tip is connect with other Local Guides. (see my article about Dos Before Itenerary) Two weeks before my arrival, I contacted @PavelSarwar, he is an expat who lives in PuteraJaya, Kuala Lumpur. He introduced me to his friends from Malaysia Local Guides. They made a schedule for meetup, and this meet up was photowalk at Klang, and @StephenAbraham as the host.

Alhamdulilah, @Saidulkarim from Malaysia LG contacted me, he said he will accompany me in Kuala Lumpur at his day off.

I arrived at Kuala Lumpur on Friday, 8th March 2019. That was my first time in Kuala Lumpur, and solo travelling. I did many research on cheap transportation, good food, and places to go.

KLIA2 has Airport Train, but I prefer took bus. I took the bus to go to Kuala Lumpur Sentral known as KL Sentral. As I mentioned before, I look for cheap solution, only 12MYR. I went to first floor to buy bus ticket. And I stumbled to this restaurant. WOW, I read the review from a blog! Lucky me! I found that restaurant. NZ Curry House. https://goo.gl/maps/9h49SYfPqdiJ7k8B8

See the review from others, and found this restaurant on 1st floor. As expected, the food was delicious and affordable. I could not resist, so I made VLOG.

When I first came to KL Sentral, I got lost in that big train station. I like being adventurous one, walking and looking for clues but I should have bring my backpack, instead I brought a travel bag with no wheels. Bad choice huh! So heavy almost 6kilos! Hahahaha!

I walked back and forward, and went through NU Sentral Mall, then finally I found my way to my hotel! At last arrive in my hotel at 3 o’clock.

The room was affordable, and spacious. The top advantage of it, It near the KL Sentral. When I saw bed, oh I just fell down, and never want to wake up! Bye bye my Afternoon schedules! I decided to take a nap. zzzzz

Of course at evening, I was starving, so I decided to go out, to look for dinner, and try to use Monorail. It was not common for me to use Monorail, so that was my first ride! My destination was Alor Street, Bukit Bintang. That night Alor Street was very crowded, I took 360 video on that street and made a VLOG. I bought a Rainbow Juice, it was 15MYR, so expensive!

As I Reach the end of the street, I found this restaurant. TG’s Nasi Kandar. https://goo.gl/maps/PxqwLL9PCEEgY8LV8

I got lucky for the second time? really?

I saw this blog, reviewed about this place. And I saw the review of this restaurant, I really wanted to go there, I think, I would not have the chance. But, I found at the end of the ALOR street. WOW! Amazing! When I enter that restaurant, I felt happiness, I could not explain you why.

I ordered the food, and I was full, I could not finish my dinner. When I paid, it was Only 5MYR. The Juice compare to this food, WHAAAT! so cheap!

I walked back to Monorail Station near Bukit Bintang, I met lots of Street Musician, some of them sang Indonesian’s Songs. I didn’t enjoy that, cause my legs feel hurt, got to go back to hotel soon.
I said to myself, “I think today its enough, there will be tomorrow!”

as I lied down on my bed, I thanked to Allah for that day. Got to be prepared for tomorrow adventure, and met my new best friend, Saidul.

to be continued

Hello @Ddimitra ,

What an amazing journey and interesting trip you had! Congratulations for this initiative!

I enjoyed reading your travel diary very much, the details, the places, the food.

What did you enjoy the most, and if there is one thing to select from the whole, what would it be?

That’s a nice write on KL based on your personal experience, and hopefully, you will have more time to explore this vibrant city that has been changing rapidly over the last 10 years. I’ve been a native to KL and have experienced the changes dating back to 30-40 years ago, and have seen how fast it has developed (Actually a little too fast if you ask me).

While many travelers would love to visit KL on their transit or purposely include it into their itinerary, I would strongly suggest that they consider spending at least a minimum of three days in Kuala Lumpur. This way, you would not have to rush and see everything in one go.

Devi, if you are still around, make sure you catch the Kommuter Train to Batu Caves from KL Sentral and see the amazing cave temple which is one of the Top 3 things to experience while in Malaysia. Also, do visit the Bukit Nanan Eco Forest in the heart of KL and try the wonderful canopy walk here.

Have a great trip here in Kuala Lumpur!

As KL has both day and night activities, they both differ from each other. Of course, if you are here on a quick visit, you will attempt to see as many sights as possible, and also try to experience the incredible local food scenes.

Honestly, if you have a short stay here, I would also recommend staying around the Bukit Bintang area as is it where everything happens. It is also walking distance to many of the top attractions in KL.

Wow you are so strong, you carry a bag weighted six kilograms. I always carry the same type of bag too, for 9 days trip to Japan, my bag was 2.3 kgs. I travel by myself as well. I enjoyed reading your post. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Thank you for sharing!

The rainbow juice looks awesome, I’m not surprised it was expensive. How did it taste? Do you think it was worth the money?

hi @BorrisS

nice to meet you.

This article is part of my trilogy. I would tell all about it in different articles about Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

The most enjoyable moment would be the day I met the Malaysia Local Guides. It was stunning day! We had fun together. Will wrote about it in the last episode.

I made my itenerary, based on blogwalking, see other blogs, read carefully, probably repeatedly until I reach the optimize itenerary for me.

When I saw the restaurant according to my readings, I felt happy! It is kind of weird, but I think its the Law of Attraction!

have you ever travelling alone in a place no one you know, probably, the place has different native language.

hello @MalaysiaAsia

how nice of you! I hope I have the chance to meet you someday.

You are absolutely right, I must go back to Kuala Lumpur, or at least Malaysia for general. My itention is Malaka or Penang.

My trip was on March 2019, and it was 4 days and 3 night. And still I dont think that’s enough.

while I was there, my number one itenerary went to museum and Mosques. I didn’t put Batu Caves in my itenerary. I visit National Mosques twice in that journey. Turn out when second time around, there is a Makam Pahlawan beside the mosque. Although PuteraMosque made me stunning, but National Mosque got me lots of beautiful pictures, and It easy to access by the road! LOVE IT!!!

Thank you for your suggestion of the places I could go, will definitely explore those someday. Or at least, you could write in here about it, then I could read and dream about it. hahahaha

Thank you for your answer @Ddimitra . It sounds very interesting to get so many fruits mixed, I’m not sure I would like the combination either hahah

It’s great that you kept the bottle, it looks nice, and you got your money’s worth

Hey @Ddimitra ! Thanks for sharing your trip to KL! I’m Malaysian though not from KL and know of Stephen and Pavel. Hopefully, I’ll get the chance to meet the rest too!

I’m glad you enjoyed your trip and yes, there are loads to see in KL. I would imagine that the weather is the same in Indonesia where it gets super hot during the day and there’s normally a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. At least, that’s my experience of KL weather so I would always try do exploration either early in the day or after the afternoon rain. During the mid-day, I try to be in places where there are loads of cover and shade! Can’t wait to see your next two posts on your travels! Eager to see you talk more about the food actually! I miss Malaysian food sooooo much!
