Solo dining experiences in South Africa.

Eating out at restaurants has become popular all across the world and usually takes place with groups of friends and family or potential or current suiters. In recent months I have found myself living alone and also having to dine alone. Visiting restaurants alone and indulging in their delectable delights has now become a favorite pasttime or even self appreciation. It used to be weird for me to go dining out alone but I have picked up an attitude that says that if I am paying for it, then I am going to enjoy myself.

Do you enjoy dining alone?

Hi @Dineo_Mokgehle ,

Welcome to Connect!

The cake looks amazing, thanks for sharing! I’d have to say, I love both, dining out alone or with friends and family! Where did you have this dessert and what are some of your favourite restaurants?

That said, please feel free to Introduce Yourself in our monthly topic.

Dining alone is something I do most of the time while on travel because my travels are solo - mainly. It’s fun to visit new places and observe the atmosphere without fellows interruption indeed.
I love the fact that you have posted the cake. That’s one of my favorite meals too. Where did you get it?

Dining solo is absolutely amazing because you can be on social media or even read a book and have your favorite eats without any disturbances right? The place was shot in Mugg & Bean in Brooklyn Pretoria. Its a bakery setup but also serve traditional meals. They serve really big portions and I always eat half and keep some for home

You are right about that indeed. My cellphone is almost always full of notifications too. Reading is almost impossible at the Bulgarian cafes but drawing … that’s another story and that’s what I do most of the time whenever alone on the table. The interior and people are great source of ideas.

Does this location allow takeout?

Hey @FlameFox

The place does allow for take outs because they have very generous portions. The restaurant is pretty quiet and people tend to plug in some computers as they have free WiFi and bottomless coffee, how cool is that?. Having said that I usually just get busy on my phone. Kids and technology

Sounds like heaven indeed, @Dineo_Mokgehle ! Bottomless coffee, omg! Tell me that there’s shower and I am moving in. Hearing that portions are good size, does that valid for the sweets as well? Sorry, didn’t ask if this is a sweets shop (only)

haha @FlameFox the sweets are not bottomless. You only get them when you pay the bill. It is however an absolutely great vibe

Thought this might be the case but, what? Don’t we get free refills on the coffee matter? (here’s where I am doing sad face) Sole travellers are great company for themselves however, do you know of any places with refill option in your town?
