I was just minding my own business one day and suddenly I got a notification on my phone to leave a review. Thinking not much of it, I posted my review. It was nothing special, just a grade with no comment on it whatshowever. This however did spark something in me. I thought about how reviews in general can help others to get more information or how it can help them to find what they are looking for. And so my journey to being a ‘Local guide’ began.
My hobbies mainly involve cooking and food. Not necessarily in that order. Due to this, wherever I go I am always looking for something nice to eat or different kinds of food to try. When I traveled to a certain city however, I struggled to find the proper information that I was looking for. It was in this moment that I realised that I was not the only one with this problem.
Aside from exploring either on my own or with friends, I try to visit as many places as I can. During this, I try to focus on both new and small places. Not only are these smaller businesses the ones that are often overlooked, but they are also the ones that lack the most in information regarding things such as opening hours, their menu or their quality.
Traveling for food is one of my biggest passions and I try to help out others as much as I can. Conveniently enough throughout doing this over the course of a few years, I became a ‘Local Guide’.
Being a ‘Local Guide’ in itself does not mean much the me honestly. What matters more to me is the fact that my experience and opinion can reach others so that they can find what they are looking for, or to help them in making a decision in where to go. Food is always better when shared with others and it’s a shame that some of the best places to eat are more often than not overlooked just because no one knows about them.
One of the most interesting things I have done as a ‘Local Guide’ is traveling to countries where English is not necessarily the main language. It is in countries like this that tourists are often getting lost in deciding where to go, simply because there is no way for them to get an overview. By reviewing as many places as I can and reviewing them in English, I try to help tourists get by and find their way.
