The mid-summer months of April and May are relatively warm in the Indian SubContinent and people from the northern region easily escape to enjoy the cool and pleasant climate of the hill stations in the Himalayas.
But for most people in the central and southern regions of India, those places are off-limits and too far to travel.
Snow worlds in Bangalore and Hyderabad are great places to take a break from the hot weather. Snow World had come up in Pune as well but was soon closed down owing to the cool and pleasant weather even during the summer.
Last summer in Hyderabad I visited the Snow World which is a gigantic indoor arena with hundreds of tonnes of artificial snow laid on a layered flooring specially prepared to avoid seepage or melting. I learned from the house-keeping staff that the top layer of snow is cleaned and an additional 2-3 tonnes of artificial snow is generated within the facility and spread on the floor every day. Though I noticed that there was a considerable amount of salt and fine sand also mixed with the snow.
Everyone is provided with a snow jacket that covers the complete body and keeps it warm besides special snow-shoes. Then we were admitted in zones of reducing temperatures from the warm room temperature to the near-zero temperature inside.
There are slides that dump you right into a pile of snow as seen in the picture above.
Besides this, the other attractions are merry-go-round as seen in the picture below and also ice bumping cars that are favorite sports with both kids and adults.
Besides this, we simply played with snow, making snowballs, throwing at each, or making a snowman. The total duration of the trip is about 45 minutes though the official duration is only 30 minutes but they generously gave 15 minutes as bonus time to us.
There is also snow volleyball that can be enjoyed like beach volleyball.
A surprising event that was not announced but was super-fun was the snowfall that feels just like the real snowfall that I had experienced in North America back in 2010 and in Germany in 2018.
People enjoy snow-dancing in the snowfall which is similar to rain-dancing at water parks. In snow dancing a snow-flake thrower showers snow-flakes in a confined area giving the feeling of snowfall and popular music is played in the background which prompts people to dance.
