Located on the edge of Alpental Ski area, near Snoqualmie Pass, and just below the north bound trail head for the Pacific Crest Trail is an oft traveled ribbon of beauty. Trail #1013 climbs up past the head waters for the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River through a pass and then down to a collection of alpine lakes that usually remain frozen well into summer.
Even in late June we’re only able to penetrate just past the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Boundary before weak snow balanced precariously on a steep slope keeps us at its edges. Enjoy bear grass, glacier lily, heather, and even the occasional late blooming trillium along the way as we climb past avalanche downed trees and krummholz pines.
