Being a local guide on google maps means I get to help out my small community and give credit where credit is due.
I live in a small town that is filled with one of a kind shops. Our town actually has a bylaw that does not allow chain stores. This means that the stores we do have need as much help as they can possibly get to promote their businesses so that they can flourish and grow. I have always believed in giving credit where credit is due and as a customer I would prefer to spend my money somewhere that appreciates and values my business. To this end, there’s no better platform than being a Local Guide on Google Maps. I have been a guide for seven years now and still get as excited to create a new post as I did my very first day. I enjoy highlighting aspects of each business that are important to me such as restaurants that use compostable takeaway packaging, staff that go the extra mile to make your experience a memorable one, and establishments that provide quality food, products, and services you can’t find in regular chain stores and restaurants. I have been lucky enough to have had a chance to actually add some business that I love on Google Maps. I discovered a wonderful lady who does Thai Massage; she helped so much with my back pain that I really wanted to help her out as well and I thought what better way than to help promote her small business on Google Maps.
I enjoy seeing how many people I have reached monthly with my contributions and knowing that I am helping others make informed buying decisions. When trying out a new place for the first time I will often jump on Google Maps to help me make a decision because lets face it, we all work hard for our money and we don’t want to be disappointed. In this sense Local Guides has created a virtual community where you can ask your neighbours for advice on where to go and what to do even when you are not in your very own neighborhood. Local Guides are bringing people together one review at a time.
