Many people (including me), tend to feel very sleepy after eating. Do you feel sleepy after eating a particular food? Do you mind sharing your experience with me?
After you do, I will tell you my experience with POST PRANDIAL SOMNOLENCE.
For me, one such culprit is Yam and Egg.
YAM and FRIED EGG
Yam and Fried Egg is a typical Nigerian breakfast. It is so high in calorific content that it can supply the day’s worth of energy ?. It is highly nutritious.
If you are watching your ‘weight’ or you are on a weight loss program, this is not the meal for you.
I have talked about Yam twice on Connect and mentioned it is a staple food in Nigeria in this post and this post.
Backstory
During my ‘Youth service year’; I spoke about this here, I had a friend who was a Medical Doctor (now a Neurosurgery Resident Doctor).
Whenever we went out to eat, I ended up sleeping immediately after the meal or in the car on the way back to my apartment while his eyes remained wide open, every time! ?
So, one day, he told me I was 'suffering’ from PPAT (Post Prandial Alkaline Tide) ? which made me experience POST PRANDIAL SOMNOLENCE. I asked why he did not suffer the same thing and he just laughed it off, explaining that not every one suffered it.
REMEDY
I like Yam and Egg, yeah, but I can’t risk ‘sleeping’ on the morning of a working day, so I decided to add a dash of Lemon to my water to aid digestion. Did it work? Yes! It did! ?
To prevent heartburn that may result from taking a combination of yam, fried egg and Lemon water, I took Yogurt.
MY SMILING MUG
Everyone around me is billed with the responsibility of ‘smiling’, so, the mug picked it up naturally.
