Bienvenidos na ciudad de Zamboanga. Asia’s Latin City. The only City in the Philippines that speaks 80% Spanish. The city is like an open Museum of the remnants of the Spanish Colonization. Our Official dialect in this city is called “CHAVACANO”. 80% Spanish language and 20% mix of other Filipino dialects. Our City festival is called the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. And we have a local song that goes… “Zamboanga Hermosa, Preciosa, Perlita… el orgullo de Mindanao”. Mindanao is the southern part of the Philippine Archipelago. Zamboanga is one of the most beautiful cities in the Philippines but not frequently visited by non-locals. The street names and signs are mostly in Spanish. Old prominent families are also of Spanish descent. It is known as Sitio de Flores because of the city’s beautiful blooms. It is a city full of color and beautiful friendly people, rich in nature, parks, unique cuisines and art.
This is the City Hall… an Old Spanish Building preserved through the years.
Zamboanga is popularly known for its colourful sails that we call “Vinta”.
Every Hermosa Festival we have a Vinta sailing contest that we call the “Regatta de Zamboanga”
This is the International Airport. If you are lucky, you will be greeted with Folk Dancers in the Airport dancing to the music of “Zamboanga Hermosa” or of “El Lengguaje de Zamboanga, Chavacano”
