Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage located in Azimpur, Dhaka was established in 1909 and at the time of establishment the orphanage was known as “Islamia Orphanage”. The orphanage started its journey in a rented house in Kumartuli.
Nawab Salimullah used to give a grant of 200 taka per month at that time. In 1913, Lord Carmichael, the Governor of Bengal visited Dhaka and visited the orphanage. In 1916 its name was changed to “Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage”.
After the death of Sir Salimullah, his son Khawaja Habibullah Bahadur took over the management of the orphanage. Later, members of the Nawab family took over the responsibility of managing the orphanage. It is currently being run under the Directorate of Social Services after the government abolished the committee in 2008.
