Single Day Drive from Colombo

We did a single day discovery of the East coast of Srilanka in a very exciting journey.

We hired a cab and started from Colombo at 6:30am. On the way we stopped for a sumptuous traditional Srilanka breakfast comprising of String hoppers and chicken curry. We reached Galle by 10:55am.

We did a quick walking tour of the fish market and then we went to the beach. There were rock formations in the sea and there were some sea birds sitting on those rocks as well.

The waves crashing against the rocks was really melodious. Then we climbed the Dutch Fort. The view of the sea from the fort was really breathtaking. After that we went to Maritime museum. Lots of ancient ships/boats. We even saw some ancient anchors made of rocks. After that we proceeded to Bentota. Bentota beach was beautiful. Here no rocky formations in the sea. Lovely beach. At a restaurant by the side of the beach, we had some sea food. There was an option to pick our sea food (live) and then they would weigh it and fry it for us.

We skipped that option as my son could not bear it.

Next we went to Hikkaduwa (Sea Turtle Hatchery and Rescue centre). This was really an unforgettable experience.

We also drove past moonstone mine.

We also went to a Budhist temple near a river on the way back to Colombo. We reached Colombo by 8pm after a very exciting trip.

Colombo is the capital of Srilanka. Srilanka is a pearl shaped beautiful country located just beneath India on the map. It is an island nation surrounded by sea on all sides.
