Singapore through the eyes of a food enthusiast

I had finally made it to my 3 day layover at Singapore to see my brother. This was a much needed tranquillity after my long months of stress and cold of Canada . Something fresh and warm. And since it was a short visit I was limited in my options of “popular places”to visit. That’s when Google maps came in handy for finding out the best places to roam near my stay, places to dine in, and also those serene spots that escapes the crowd’s

eye to enjoy an evening peacefully with the family.

Let me introduce you to some of my experiences here.

Santosa is in itself quite huge and overwhelming to see around in a day. But with google reviews I had a clear head as to which attractions to dive into without getting lost in that fantasy world. I had read so much about the roller coaster, and it was an absolute thrill to every single cell of my body.

One other must see was the S.E.A aquarium, housing more than 100,000 species of marine life from all around the world. One might think, “what can be interesting about an oceanarium for a 27 year old adult ?” but believe me when I say it was so much more than I had expected, I came out as curious as an 8 year old. To see all that aquatic life swimming and chilling above, beneath and around me ! it was so calming.

And as always the food was what I was most concerned about. As a single working lad, there’s not much time to have wholesome meals. But experiencing food in Singapore was most surprising of all. I could find out places on google which my brother who lived there for 5 years couldn’t find. Malaysian born chef Chan Hon Meng’s was given the cheapest ever Michelin star for a dish called Soya sauce Chicken Noodles, and we were determined to try it. People usually wait for hours to get this dish, but all thanks to reviews, we knew exactly when to go inorder to avoid the crowd. The dish was one to die for.

Hans Im Gluck German Burgers was one promising restaurant, with its infrastructure and interiors. One would have a one in a million experience of dining in a forest. With its tall birch logs placed exceptionally well in the restaurant, bird houses and to top all that with glassed windows that lets in all the sunshine made the place a must visit.

Satay by the Bay was one place where I devoured my heart full. Exotic seafood cuisines, warm people and the aroma of the love for food that brought everyone there. Here are some of the mouth watering seafood dishes from Satay by the Bay one must try when visiting. Beef/chicken /mutton satay-a signature dish of the house, Sambal stingray with its spicy sweet sauces, and countless varieties of barbecues and drinks to satisfy your hunger pangs.

So in short what I mean is that a short stay need not be so dull and unproductive when you have everything at the end of a click. Google maps helped me plan this short yet sweet memorable trip and made it easy peasy. Im also further encouraged to see others who read my reviews and decides to go ahead exploring the city. My most interesting thing to do as a local guide would be to see that satisfactory smile on your face when sitting on a plane going back to your work life knowing that you can have many more such escapades with

google by your side.
