Simple food with dollops of love

I am a foodie for sure …and love trying out new restaurants and cuisine. I just can’t have the same dish I had eaten before. I have to try something new !!!

I enjoy the sit down dinners and I am equally at home in a local restaurant renowned for its food. I prefer the latter anyday.

Let me tell you why. These local cuisine restaurants are family run and recipes are handed down to the new generation. The style of cooking, taste and ingredients are distinct in each dish. Its mainly the women who dominate the kitchen and the taste and quality remains same down the years.

I recently found a 30 years old family restaurant Damodar P30. Located in an area which I could find, thanks to Google maps !! The warm hospitality, limited choice in the menu, clean simple dishes and the unmistakable taste, really made me their client forever. The food is served with no frills (dressing). The owners quietly check if it suits your taste and offer solutions. Like I found the spice a wee bit high. Immediately a bowl of sweetened curd was served to me. This attention makes you realise that they care.

Chatting with the lady owner, I asked her what is that one ingredient in her cooking that stands out and she promptly said LOVE. Reminded me of my mother who used to say that she adds dollops of love so that we love her food and eat it.

I get this feeling in the quaint local cuisine restaurant everywhere. And these are not popular on Google maps. I like to cover these not only for the residents in that area but also for those living outside the area, city and country. I have overseas friends who are keen to try this very cuisine…and if anyone visiting the city needs authentic local food, this is great and super value for money.

I have to drive around to find the restaurants and again Google maps takes me there , but as I look at it, better to spend time discovering the new restaurants than be a couch potato at home. What say ???

And lastly, feel that the big food chains and restaurants are slowly encroaching this space. If I can write a review for the local cuisine restaurants, and people read it and visit, it would be a small contribution from my side to keep the traditional style of cooking stay on longer.
