Simple and essential information can make a difference!

Hi, everybody! My name’s Adrik, I’m 22 years old and I live in Macapá, a small city located in Brazil’s North region. I often use Google Maps and always see other Local Guides’ comments when I go to places I’ve never been before. Obviously, when I visit a new place, I always share my experience with other people that can see that place in the future. Before to explain to you what I like to share most on Google Maps, it’s necessary to talk a little about my city. Macapá is not a touristic city and to get here is a bit hard. It’s possible only by plane or by boat because it doesn’t exist road connections with other big cities in Brazil. Since I have started to use more Google Maps, I realized that comments from Local Guides about touristic places and locals like restaurants, squares and pubs in Macapá are often very short or don’t have many useful tips for people who are not from Macapá and are looking for diverse opinions about these locals. So, I have decided to be a Local Guide and share my impressions about places I’ve ever visited in my city and so in other cities. What I like to share most on Google Maps is a simple description with essential informations from the locals I go, for example if the local has accessibility, if it is safe, how is the service (it depends if the place requires that), in what time the place is crowded and in what time it is empty, how is the food (if it is expensive or cheap), the thermic comfort (is it hot, cold?). I secure to say all the informations a visitor need to know (for example, it’s interesting to say that entrance is free on Wednesdays in a Museum, for example). By the way, I appreciate people who like to make this kind of comment, simple with essential informations, including photos when possible.

I will show you an example of comment I make in Google Maps and share a place that makes me very proud.

This is the São José’s Fortress (In Portuguese, its name is “Fortaleza de São José de Macapá”). It’s a unique place for a few reasons. It’s a fortress located in Macapá, in front of Amazon River, one of the largest rivers in the world, and its construction ended in 1782. It’s the biggest fortress in South America and it was elected one of The Seven Wonders of Brazil in 2008 by Caras, a famous Brazilian magazine. It is also a museum where the visitors can see some pictures about the native’s daily life and know more about the local history in Brazil’s Colonial period. The entrance is free! This is my favorite place in my city and I think it’s a bit unknown by travelers. Now, no more. Come to see it!

Bye-bye!
