Similar but Not the same, between New York City and Marunda, Jakarta Indonesia

Last sunday, I went to a meetup with Jakarta Local Guides to House of Si Pitung, museum of a local hero of Old Jakarta. The museum located in area called Marunda in northern part of Jakarta, Indonesia. (see report of the meetup: RECAP Sejarah si Pitung dan Masjid Al Alam ).

During photo-walk on the way to the museum, my eyes caught a unique colorful tricycles motor vehicle. This vehicle, in an instant remind me of my last trip to New York City. So, I took a couple of pictures and compare it.

Can you also see the similarities ?

In Indonesia, tricyles used to roam in Jakarta street, as public transportation vehicles, we call it Bemo. So will I call both of them as modern day Bemo.

Both Bemo in Marunda and New York are use for Publc Service and both are just introduce to serve in recent years.

Their biggest advantage is their agility to reach areas where normal car could not reach, without sacrificing the speed and functionality of a car.

In Marunda, the tricycles are used as small garbage truck, serving and reaching out to small street, where previously cannot reach by normal truck.

While in New York, this mini truck are used by NYPD Traffic police. (see my previous post NYPD Car is Cute.)

Do you have your own city version of these Publc Service bemo ?
Please let us know about it . . .

Here in Malang, East Java - Indonesia, some people use this tricycle as a foodtruck, Pak @emuniruzaman .

Usually they sell coffee, or nasi pecel, or even raw vegetables. We called it: mlijo…:grin:

Hi @emuniruzaman ,

Thanks for sharing!

They do look very much alike, and I think using these smaller vehicles is great.

Especially since the green one is used for garbage collection, it will have to stop in the middle of the street. Being small and agile, the vehicle doesn’t take up too much space.

Using it as a traffic police vehicle in New York also makes great sense, as long as they don’t rely on this for a high speed pursuit i guess.

Thanks Bang @Radjasitanggang

I visited NYC last Dec, where and when I took the NYPD minis.
Yes, I looking forward to see Jakarta become like New York in all their positive vibes and aspects.

It looks very cool when they are lined up behind each other like this @emuniruzaman , it almost looks like a collection.

I haven’t seen these cars where I’m from, but I do think it’s a great idea to make more room for other cars on the street.

Thank you @AbdullahAM

Do you have similar public services using this type of vehicles ?

Maybe you should have one of those @Avraham_Jurado
